Join me for a special episode of DARI TV - my first interview! I had an impromptu chat with Admir - a former Yonsei GSIS student and overall superstar - about his experience at Ewha GSIS. It was great to catch up with him in person after a semester of online classes. You may have guessed that nothing was scripted (hehe)... we talked about our Sustainability and Reporting Analysis course (thank you to WikiRate!) and also some more serious topics (i.e., Hogwarts sorting hat). @@DARITVKOREA Hi! I’ve been accepted to both universities :) I am currently deciding between them and wanted to ask whether GKS students are also allowed to take classes at other universities’ GSIS? I haven’t been able to find much information on that anywhere but knowing would really help with my decision!

@@steph5656 Hello! Congratulations on your acceptance to both universities. ^^ For GSIS programs, there is an agreement to allow for credit exchange at other GSISes. As a GKS student registered at a specific GSIS program (if you're talking about the GSIS program), this means you can take classes at other GSISes. I would try to talk to current students about not only the curriculum (which allows you to take classes at other universities), but also in terms of student advisory (academic/thesis/research) and career guidance (both of which are the responsibility of the university you register at). This video is so great! I'm actually considering both Ewha and Yonsei's GSIS. I'm interested in the Korean studies programs in both GSIS. I want to know if the Korean Studies graduate degree program at Ewha GSIS is taught in English? I know that Yonsei is predominantly in English and another school I'm interested in Hanyang GSIS Korean studies masters program is as well. Thanks!

Thank you for your feedback! For the Korean Studies program at Ewha, my understanding is that some courses are taught in English while others are taught in Korean. You may have to check the brochure once more about this (the Int’l Studies program is taught entirely in English). I would definitely double-check on Yonsei and Hanyang (particularly with current/former students), because there have been cases in other departments where programs were advertised as being taught entirely in English, but this was not actually the case. Even some Hanyang GSIS courses are taught in different languages depending on the track (for example, my understanding is that Chinese studies courses are taught in Chinese, etc.). Of course, we would need to double-check. Hope this helps! ^^

Hiii! I plan to apply either to Yonsei or Ewha (because they’re both great universities and their location is the best in my opinion🙏🏻) but I have one or two questions I’d like to ask if it’s ok🙈 I am 28 almost, are there mature students studying in the universities? (I plan to pursue bachelors deg) (I heard there’s heavy ageism going on in Korea so I’ve been mostly told to apply a different country but I’m interested in Korean culture and fashion)..oh, and also to get accepted to the Ewha University; do I need TOPIK certification? I don’t speak Korean so I’ve been told Ewha won’t accept me and they want higher HS diploma GPA.. (mine is 60 out of 100...). I heard international students are much happier in Ewha than Yonsei(especially in UIC, people complain a lot..👀). Also if it’s ok could you please tell me if both universities do interviews for all courses? I am scared to fail the interviews..

Hello! Thanks so much for your questions. I always believe it's never too late to learn, so best wishes on pursuing a degree! There may be more mature students at both universities, but unfortunately I do not have any statistics on me (there may be some included in admissions brochures or websites). As I'm not as familiar with the undergraduate program (I'm based in GSIS), you may have to get in touch with Yonsei and Ewha directly on TOPIK requirements (but I do believe there may be some exceptions to the TOPIK requirement for international studies programs). As for admissions criteria, both universities place heavy emphasis on your previous academic record. You may want to check both schools' websites (or contact the appropriate department/Office of Int'l Affairs) when it comes to GPA requirements or guidelines. For interviews, you may also want to double-check with the universities as they may have different admissions criteria. Fighting!

Hello! Normally if a program says it is 100% Korean, the language of instruction (and promotional materials) will be in Korean. In case it’s not clear, I would send an email to the department office just to make sure. Best wishes! ^^

Hello! As I'm not part of the MBA faculty, it's difficult for me to say either way. But I would encourage you to try to reach out to both programs (in this way, you can check their responsiveness!) and also review specific criteria important to your potential studies (working/teaching language, majors/concentrations with the MBA program, etc.). I would also reach out to current students from both programs if possible, so that you can get a sense of the student experience. I hope this helps and best wishes!

All syllabus listing can be found at Ewha's main website (as should be the case for other universities). If you change the website setting to English, this will be listed under "Academics" -- and you can search through both undergraduate and graduate programs.

Great question! No, you do not need a bachelor’s in international studies to apply for a Master’s in international studies. The most important thing is to demonstrate why you are interested in pursuing the degree and how it fits with your academic/professional interests. Hope this helps!
