Always found it interesting that Sua is such a stickler with banmal. Siyeon and Dongie barely care and I honestly think Jiu would prefer it if the whole group spoke informally but Sua is very serious about it, she must have had strict parents and elders. This also explains why yaja time is so rare for DC, Sua would explode with too much.

i don't think her parents are strict based on what we've been hearing. my parents are probably the least strict parents in the world, but the hierachy name title is so ingrained in my brain that i get angry when people who are way younger than me use informal language

Yeah I’ve always found it fascinating considering Sua’s very “free” in so many other regards lol. But on the other hand I think the members have mentioned that Sua’s the most conservative of them, so that contrast in her personality is so interesting to me. But it might also be a cultural thing I don’t completely understand! I know Koreans are big on age hierarchy, and Sua is the most strict about it in the group. Maybe the way she was brought up? Idk.

It's not really about being traditional on Sua's part. Koreans are typically more conservative and strict with the hierarchy, but with Sua, I think she mentioned before in this one interview (idol picnic with Jim Sukjin as host) that keeping the formality draws a line that keeps DC's relationship as colleagues professional. It doesn't mean that the girls aren't close - they're friggin close to each other - but there are times when you need to be professional and blurring the line too much won't do much good.

It's interesting. I've seen idols in other groups go to the extremes like Yoohyeon and Sua when it comes to hierarchy, but I think Yoohyeon is most consistent out of the Koreans. (Foreigners are a different story, because they can get away with it more). On the other extreme I think Soyeon is pretty strict with honorifics. She also will not let anyone in her group buy her things unless it's like her birthday or something of that nature. Apparently she gets really upset if they don't allow her to take care of them, as she takes her role as leader very seriously. Recently, though, she's given up on correcting Yuqi on being informal because she barely tries amongst the group, lol.

Soyeon is the wealthiest by far, that also plays a factor when it comes to who plays. A lot of the time when it comes to wealth, say you're at a restaurant, if you're senior you should be paying unless someone at the table is noticeably wealthier and then it's on them. Soyeon is noticeably wealthier than the rest of the group, it's incumbent on her to pay most of the time. Sua is probably the strictest I'm aware of in terms of honorifics although I don't follow a ton of groups. Hierarchy barely exists in Mamamoo, really only when Solar chooses to throw her weight around if she needs to set the Loser Crew straight (usually Moonbyul).
