Michigan snow can be deep. especially up where you are. I am in lower peninsula so i gat half the snow you get. it gets rough here so i imagine you get tons of snow. that makes the roof sag and eventually leak. also rain gutters are a must. keep as much water away from the house as possible. we usually lay plastic around the bottom part of the house. the crawl space. just so the snow melt stays out.

I have had trusses break from a foot of heavy wet snow. People just don't understand how heavy snow is.

Snow can be very heavy. Specially when you get cold, warm, then freezing temps, lots of ice
