York's Hidden Gem Campsite The Rest Was Awful

In this video, we share our honest opinion of our recent trip to York, England. While we were excited to visit such a historic town, we found that everything was far too expensive and overpriced. We were also disappointed that we couldn't bring our dogs with us, and that we weren't allowed to walk on the York walls with them. To top it off, we paid a shocking £28 for a chip shop tea and then an additional £20 for drinks.
Despite our negative experience in York, we did find a great campsite that we highly recommend. The campsite was located just a short drive from the city and was very well-maintained. It was an adult-only campsite, which meant that it was very quiet and peaceful. The facilities were spotlessly clean and well-maintained, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We particularly liked the fact that the campsite was surrounded by trees and greenery, which made for a very pleasant and relaxing stay.
While we won't be going back to York anytime soon, we would definitely consider staying at this campsite again. In this video, we'll take you through our experience in York and share our thoughts on why we won't be going back. We went so hubby could look at train museum, but had to get Henry hound pupsat, which for your 3 would be 2nd mortgage. Once we found nothing was dog friendly, including the walls, we ended up going out to Filey and surrounding area. My idea of hell is shopping and hubby nearly had a fit over York prices. Having lived and worked in London before moving to Dorset, those who want levelling up, be careful what you wish for. Love yo the 5 of you. X

Looks like a fun trip. Your guys channel really has grown by leaps and bounds. Seems every time I notice your count you’ve gone up by another couple thousand. Crazy cuz pretty sure you were right around 1k when I started following. Now you’re all big time. Love seeing the pups playing. Oh and just so you know, crap is getting expensive everywhere. It’s ridiculous. And a shame. Makes it hard to really do the things wanted or planned on a trip. But we’re still trying to keep things going. Love the video. Agree with you about kids. As for dog-friendly cafes, Coffee#1 chain (I think they have places all over the country) are dog-friendly - floors are wood not carpeted, so any little "accidents" can be easily cleaned up. And they do a crackin' sausage bap for brekky, & welsh cakes (warmed up with butter), Portuguese style custard tarts, & a wonderful banana loaf with choc chips! Not dog friendly but one place you cannot miss in York is Betty's tearooms - good old fashioned tea room with a maitre'd, uniformed waitresses, a pianist & wonderful range of teas, coffees & cakes. Not cheap but well worth it. We really like York, we use the same carpark you used because of the spaces big enough for a van. Agree prices are getting ridiculous, particularly for visitor attractions - no idea how families can afford days out.

I think York uses the most haunted city in Europe but yes the pricing is getting out of hand. But I don't think we can blame the shops for it entirely because I expect the council charge a fortune for business rates, then rent etc and the circle pushes everything higher.

It’s like any tourist area, sky high prices to extract the maximum amount of cash from you. The trouble is tourists will pay the price, so those shops, cafes, restaurants and bars will charge top prices. I bet if you wandered out of the touristy areas you’d have found food at much more realistic prices. It’s like motorway rest areas, I went into one last week and fancied a packet of crisps, that was up till I found they were a pound a packet dearer than the same thing in Tesco (85p in Tesco £1-85 in the services) Total rip off, but on a motorway you’re considered a captive customer.

Those showers looked great- as you say the cramped in ones are a nightmare. How much did you get fined for the York Minster tinkle? That’s legendary Neil! 🙌 York is a pain for dog friendliness - made me think as when we’ve been I’ve enjoyed it but we end up splitting up where one of us dog sits and the other goes out which isn’t ideal. Parts of Durham are the same. Not great at all. The further you go up the dales etc the more dog friendly they become I find. Have a fabulous Easter both of you - all the best, David & Rachel 👍

We normally Google every tourist attraction we are thinking of visiting to check if they are dog friendly. It does get very annoying though. The best place we have found for dogs is the Lake District as they seem to be welcome everywhere. But if places don't want dogs, we don't want to give them our business !

Stopped at that campsite, excellent place to stay. Sadly all prices for towns and city's have gone through the roof, but some of those prices were ridiculous. Dogs totally agree, why do campsites charge, only thing i can think of is you may be seen as getting something for nothing. More pubs, cafes and shops are getting dog friendly, so maybe there is hope for the future. We like York, on one of the ring roads next to the wall, are motorhome parking, so not too bad. Also next time go to York National Railway museum, its free & its dog friendly.

Loved York when we went about 20 years ago, noticed it was expensive back then. Took my then 9 yeat old daughter to go in the Minster and she was gob smacked when they wanted us to pay. We have just done York this weekend at the motorhome caravan club. Great location as you can just walk in to York. I agree the prices of attractions and some of the eateries where very expensive. The ghost walk we did was the best thing we did. We have 2 dogs from the site there are parks and fields to the left. Which was great for walking the dogs around.

Those of who have grown up near York know the prices lol. You’ve got to bear in mind it’s a culturally rich city and attracts tourists from all over the world…. Above all it’s the proud capital of Yorkshire (home sweet home), and former capital of the UK

No doubting Liverpools historic heritage at all it’s an amazing place for sure and the peeps from Liverpool are amongst the most friendly and humorous in the world. Can’t speak for its cheapness or as I like to put it better value for money as I have not really seen a great deal of it to be fair, but given Yorks prices, I don’t doubt it. York city exists predominantly for the tourists. It does not exist to service the needs of the average person sadly. Quick question. If I were visiting Liverpool for just a day what would be a ‘must visit’ attraction? (Is it even possible to narrow down to one?)

York always has been a Money Pit. The Council Partly to Blame with the Buisn ess Rates, Too Snooty, its the Same for the Horse Racing too , Hotels, B&B. But go outside from the Touristy Section, the Prices Drop. Oh Always prone to Bad Flooding ,not far from that 1st Building you was at. Trust you,with the Sex Toy 😂. That "keep" on the hill has never seen a brick kiln, mister. It's Yorkstone ( what else !) Btw, they used it for slaughtering jews in the "pogrom days" and then sling 'em down the hill for "sport". Good thing about having your own facilities with you - make your own meals - take sarnies and a flask with you when sightseeing - the vehicle costs enough anyway without having to pay the rip-off prices on top of that. I can afford to pay to eat out , but why not utilise what you have and enjoy the fact that you can sightsee without being robbed - We will always patronise the businesses who are trying hard to give good service and value for money , but vote with our feet when it's obvious we're being exploited. The sad fact is these gouging prices will only translate into a smaller footfall , and ultimately , an unprofitable business. York relies on local people, not just tourists ; they should realise this before it's too late.

Used to live just outside York and worked right in the centre very near to The Minster. York has always been a tad pricey, you certainly pay ‘tourist tax’. The Tower that you saw, on the hill, has a very sad history as it’s where people of The Jewish Faith were thrown from. A part of York’s history not to be proud of.

Having read the synopsis welcome to broken Britain everything is going through the roof I lived in york for eight years it’s a great city the prices are just going to go up everywhere in the uk for the foreseeable future unfortunately thanks brexit

True, I got fleeced for £16.50 for a burger from a van in Falmouth. It was an amazing pastrami burger but still £16.50!!

I've been to various sites around York and the best one ever is rowntree it's right next to the river and five minutes walk to that round castle type structure you wouldn't pay to go in its called the Bailey and the history of just that is unbelievable, you have missed out on so many things because you couldn't go into cos of your dogs I have a dog and I don't take him to york I've been to the rowntree site three times now and been in just about everything the minster once you buy a ticket it can be used as many times as you like for a year I went twice to see everything because you could spend hours in there, I went right to the top and the view is amazing, I walked the York Wall and came across dick turpins grave the history of York is there to see you missed out on so much shame really

Nicking Emma's "little Gomper" a brilliant way to slag someone off yet giving them zero clue🤣 And currently there are a few people close to me who are bloody great big gompers lol. you weren't tight not paying to go in that tower lol. You want to know what tight is? Tight is a brother in law that lets the kids climb onto a childrens train in Heaton park and when he finds out its a quid each , yells for them to get off....or pays 50p for a loaf when we were on hols, one of the kids knocked some slices onto the grass and he picked them up , brushed them off and buttered them for their tea.....and then banned the kids from feeding bread to the ducks on the basis "if the ducks want bread they can go to the shop for it" Blimmin eck Neil.... that bottle comment made me choke on me costa (other tassimo pods available) 15-99 for pie and chips-you can buy new ones for that lol .
