Yorkshire Three Peaks Solo Hike | Heavy Wind & Rain

I attempted the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge solo in June 2020. The hike involves summiting three peaks in the Yorkshire Dales National Park in under 12 hours. The peaks are Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough. It includes 25 miles of hiking and 1,600 metres of ascent.
I completed the challenge in just under 9 hours in terrible conditions with heavy wind and rain!

Under 9 hours is epic, I did this august 2021 in 11h 45mins just made it, i'm 56 and was well proud, I can highly recommend this one to any hill walkers the people you meet on the hills as ever make the day.

Ribblehead viaduct in the fog is an awesome pic, but glad the weather got better for you at the end. I can’t wait to get back to England and do more hiking. I might not do the challenge, but I will definitely go up Whernside while visiting the viaduct and Yorkshire Dales. Thanks for the videos Matt. I enjoy all of them.

Haha yep. Visibility was so bad and camera kept getting knocked over and covered with rain. Still at least I got to see the 3 peaks in a mix of conditions to add to the experience!

Good Job! Loved to watch this. One of the things i miss when i am away... did this in 2006... drove round the day before and hid water and food and fresh socks at memorable points...

exceptional video sir. good to see you stayed at the holme farm camp site too! did whernside last weekend and pen y ghent twice the week before 2 weeks and doing ingleborough! I was amazed you only had on a poncho to protect you from the wild elements that you encountered on 2 of the 3 peaks. Thanks so much for sharing the video

Beautiful, timeless Yorkshire, magnificent in its desolation, an otherworldly moonscape of a place rendered in myriad tones of grey, stunning in any weather but especially so in the rain and wind. An amazing hike, I wouldn't have changed anything about it. Handsome hiker, BTW.

I found ingelborough the most challenging, I started at Ribblehead. I'd never done anything like that before but like you didn't think it was that hard, aside from blisters. I didn't have your camera issues or the terrible weather to contend with though.

Well done for completing the three peaks in the rain and wind. I did the three peaks in June 2022 in very different weather conditions. Back there next week to do it again.

Great video. I completed this yesterday with work colleagues. 2 had to drop out after Whernside. We managed it in 10 hours 50 mins. Definitely one of the most challenging things I have ever done and genuinely rewarding. Cheers Matt.

Haha the poncho was a nightmare. The day after I hiked, it was in the high twenties and sunny. Very mixed bag in that area! Good luck with your hike. Matt

where do you get your supplies from/ food and drink?

As it's only a day hike, I stocked up on all my supplies before leaving. I carried a couple litres of water and plenty of snacks for the day. There is a cafe you go past that's in the valley between Whernside and Ingleborough though!
