Appropriate ... you filmed the "shipboard scenes" aboard Carrier Yorktown (CV-10,) named for the ship (CV-5) that took part in the Battle of the Coral Sea and kicked butt at Midway before being lost herself, the setting for the WWII scenes of your story. The old girl doesn't look bad for being nearly 70 years old. Well done, and a tip of hat to the sailors who took both Yorktowns, CV-5 and CV-10 in Harms Way.

Well done to all involved. Some minor mistakes like an LED emergency lighting in sickbay on the Yorktown (LEDs didn't exist in 1942, they didn't exist until after I retired from the Navy in 2004.), most compartments had incandescent lighting instead of florescent also. Sorry to nit, but I thought that seeing those things made me laugh. LOL Keep making more vids. Again, well done.
@gdavisohio Жыл бұрын
We are glad you enjoyed it. It was a BLAST MAKSING. As for the LED lights...we couldn't remove anything from the "set", as it was a retired Naval Aircraft Carrier turned into a museum.. We did our best to avoid shooting things that were inaccurate for the timeframe... Or.. we hoped no one would notice and be focused on our action. It was just inevitable. I think if you are an eagle eye, you can catch "Tour" signs in the background, but we did our best to avoid.

The yellow battle lanterns are in place, but at 15:59 there is something above them is an anachronism that appears to be LED fixtures that have yet to be created in that time frame. Fun story, especially if you've never been haze gray and underway.

YUP.,. there were ALLL kinds of modern day technology, signs pointing to tours, and things added to the ship to make it more friendly to tourists.. Our hope was that the audience was too busy watching the actors to notice. I was active duty Navy for 22 years.. so this was SO much fun to film.. AND to be the CAPTAIN of the carrier!
@NovaScotiaNewfie2 жыл бұрын
They guy who called the SF officer boy was wearing "distressed geans" I doubt the Navy would issue that. Also only full beards could be worn not goatees (I think) not 100% sure on US Military grooming regs. In the Canadian Forces beards, mustaches or clean shaven is allowed, I assume the US Navy is the same. Cool that you could film on a museum ship!

The Yorktown was struck by a single 800 pound bomb, killing 40 of the crew and leaving her crippled, limping back to Pearl Harbor for one of the most remarkable repair jobs in history. This happened near the end of the battle, long after the sinking of the light carrier Shoho. US planes were engaged about the same time against the main Japanese carrier force, the Shokaku and the Zuikaku. Neither Japanese carrier was able to sortie at Midway. The Zuikaku lost too many planes, and the Shokaku had taken heavy damage from TF-17 planes under admiral Fletcher. Now here is a challenge for you. I have thought of doing this myself and I just might. Try doing a Star Trek about the WW 2 foo fighters which were witnessed by all militaries during the war. I only have Second Life to work with.

Great story and concept BUT, There was a plastic shopping bag on a bunk in the crew quarters, the machinist in the Mess Hall was wearing Nikes and, it is an A5M not an AM5 for the Zero.

YUP!.. We had our extras hanging out when we filmed.. NIKES.. HE WAS.. I thought those were work boots! The plane.. ya. we had to work with what we could get on that.. Our only excuse on the filming errors was that we only had five hours to film, and even less time to critique the actor's wardrobe. Overall.. They did great. I didn't even notice the footwear until JUST now... GOOD catch!

@@gdavisohio Please don't take my critique as bashing in any way. I love what you did and the story line was great. I have this uncanny ability to see things that are out of place.
