Yes that’s because sometimes in yoruba ‘ni’ is contracted to L so it means the exact same thing

As a kid I used to watch a tv show called "Little Miss Jocelyn".(Jocelyn Jee Essien). She did a Nigerian sketch which they went for counseling. Their name sounded like umwokwopopo. However after watching your videos I now know they were actually called mr and Mrs O won o gbopo. Translates to Mr and Mrs expensive cheap. Your videos really help understand the language which is handy for me having igbo and yoruba family. Thanks Blessing 🙏🏼 Ikini odun keresimesi.

@@DiamanteBox Um, ok. I have been studying and singing orisha cantos in Lukumi (Cuban Yoruba), that they sing in Cuba. I hope I don't annoy you, but I include here in this reply the words to a very well-known ( in Cuba) Canto to Elegba ( because I am curious to know what you think of it), it goes like this: "Bara suwa yo; omo yalawa'na/ Maa ma ke'ni ir'awo ee/ (repeat)/ O Bara suwa yo, Eke ee, Esu Odara, omo yalawa'na / Mama ke'ni ir'awo ee". I have typed in the words without the many accent marks, because I don't know how to. What do you think? Have you ever heard of Elegba (also spelled Eleggua)?

"ni " in yoruba or "Gni" in Ewe to Say "is " in English. Also "Ku" in yoruba or "éku"/"Ku" in Ewe mean The same thing : die/ dead...

These videos are so helpful, I’ve just subscribed! I was brought up in the UK and can understand Yoruba pretty fluently but for some reason just can’t speak it very well and i also find my fluency is going downhill now that I no longer live with my parents😭 Have you ever though if doing podcasts because I think sometimes what I’m missing on top of lessons is just being able to hear Yoruba on the frequent!xx

Hey Naomi! You're not alone, i find a lot of people understand it pretty well but it's the speaking that they have a problem with. I haven't actually considered podcasts, i think the closest thing I have at the moment is the videos where I just talk Yoruba throughout and subtitle them xx
