In the early to mid 70's we lived in Fresno/ Clovis, and we went to Yosemite a lot!

I love the video! Yosemite is so beautiful in winter! Snow shoeing is great to do! I've visited Yosemite a few times in the winter and getting around on the snow is so fun snow shoeing! You can get to a few places a little easier.

Just a head's up that the Big Oak Flat entrance via Highway 120 and the Hwy 41 entrance both only only close during periods of heavy snow until such time as the roads can be cleared. They are often reopened after one a day or two following snow-bearing winter storms, sometimes with chain controls on vehicles. Tioga Road does close every winter - the timing chages every year, but it's usually from November to around Memorial Day (late May in the US).

It can do, but usually it is snow-free in the valley by early spring except for the day or immediate days following a snow storm!

Can I still hike some of it at least did you need a permit to get in the park?

You need an entry pass, available at the gate or online, but not a wilderness permit, provided your staying outside of the backcountry. Most of the lower valley is accessible for hiking, but climbing out of the valley and beyond will likely require snow/ice skills.
