I now understand why I had so much trouble with this game as a kid. This game is like a metroidvania that doesn't give you a map. Seriously, there's a crazy amount of secrets in this game and no way to keep track of any of it!

Deceptively difficult is completely correct. The first time I tried collecting all melons casually I realized then speedrunners of this game are masters.

He's been involved in speedrunning and this game looong before DDLC. He ran this game for years, and also did a lot of work on games like Mario Sunshine where he helped set up easy practice files. He also co-runs FrankerFaceZ, one of the best add-ons for Twitch, and did a whole bunch of stuff for Smash, both big among speedrunners as well as those respective communities. Like the speedrunning Twitch community were among the first that actually streamed and promoted DDLC as a result because of those prior connections.

I just saw the SGDQ schedule and gave a huge fist pump when I saw you're going to be kicking things off! Congrats and super well-deserved! I've been doing a playthrough of all Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Zelda games in chronological order. After completing each game, I watch a couple speedruns because I can appreciate them so much more after just playing the game. Your Yoshi's Story runs have been my favorite so far (I'm in the middle of Skyward Sword, so 2011 in the release chronology). It's also one of those initially-kind-of-annoying-but-over-time-really-endearing soundtracks that I keep coming back to regularly. But anyway - huge congrats again and people are in for a treat with this game. Go Dan!!!
