Why is this the first time I'm finding this explanation? Do other advanced instructors not like to share this concept? Shibata Sensei is an excellent teacher. Thank you very much for sharing.

Many other instructors don't even know that this is happening. Aikido is supremely subtle and soft which means it's very easy to miss the little parts that make up the whole. I find many dan grade practitioners who can throw people with the softest of movement but also consistently fail in certain areas simply because their model of the kinetic interactions is flawed and has holes. When those subtle holes in the knowledge is filled in, their aikido game is taken to the next level throwing around people with the minimum of movement. Shibata sensei is absolutely fantastic in teaching the proper structure to generate energy and the proper method in transmitting his own energy that causes a significant reflection of uke's energy.

@@FreeSalesTips there are people in the Aikido realm that want to reinvent the wheel to fix something that doesn't need it instead of understanding how Aikido or Daito Ryu works and I think Shibata Sensei is a very good teacher showing just that. The key is Kuzushi, if you can't unbalance the oponnent the techniques are very hard to do.

Shibata sensei, like Tohei sensei, focuses a lot on Ki and not on technique.

I have no sound on this computer in case it is explained in the video... But, why is the sensei wearing a white belt?
@RenatoAlcantara-yd2ts
@RenatoAlcantara-yd2ts 2 жыл бұрын
Because "belts" are not important to training. They are useful when you need to sort students in big events and that is it.

@@RenatoAlcantara-yd2ts Sort students according to what, though?
@RenatoAlcantara-yd2ts
@RenatoAlcantara-yd2ts 2 жыл бұрын
@@chaos_omega the "belt" system was created by Jigoro Kano sensei in response to a situation regarding group practice in schools, since originally there was no "belt system"(both sensei and students used "white belts"). Kano sensei choose black for instructors since created contrast with white keikogi/judogi. Later coloured belts were created for children. So, I am just pointing out that using a white/black/purple belt is irrelevant...unles you need to know from a distance who has more experience. And even that is questionable since I have seen "black belts" fall short from the skill expected (in my opinion). But it was rude of me to post this answer, since I am not Shibata Sensei's student...and maybe his group has a set standart where white is for teachers... My appologies.

@@RenatoAlcantara-yd2ts That's ok. I just don't think we should be saying belts are irrelevant. Sure, some places just hand them out... But the ones who have to work hard for their black belts. Judo, BJJ, kyokushin, etc... I would never say that to their face.
@RenatoAlcantara-yd2ts

@@chaos_omega it is their skill, not their belts. And a running gag is the new comer who believes being a "blue belt" means no "white belt" will make them tap.

The top skill is natural. No technique. No intention. No pathway. I know this might be hard to accept , but I trained with shihan okomoto Sensei, I have shodan and taught for years. This is still force, crude force even. It requires a sequence of events. Therefore it is not all at once. It is not truly internal because it is still taught through externalities. Because it is not one. Not natural. It is good training for the next skill level , the second level of skill or practice. This is advanced first level Kung fu. The tangible level. The three Jin are a very old treaty or poem. Reflected directly in the Dao yin scroll, echoed in xing yi.

@@angel-rq4fz I’ve read that Shioda’s aim in developing the Yoshinkan methodology (I’m an Aikikai and Taiji person fwiw) was to get specific groups of people to understand and use aikido effectively in very short periods of time. Like getting police officers fluent in a few months or even weeks or something like that. I get the impression that instilling the deeper aspects of aiki to those groups in an immediate way wasn’t a part of that goal. Which makes sense. So to me that might explain why his personal practice re: aiki is so different than the typical way we see Yoshinkan practiced. I could be totally wrong on all this, I haven’t messed with Yoshinkan and I honestly don’t know - but like you I’ve thought about this a little :) Also please note I’m not poopin on Yoshinkan AT ALL. Whatever makes people happy is fine with me. I personally never even noticed that Shioda had the aiki thing going on, because to my eye it’s not visually apparent from watching Yoshinkan practice. My teacher pointed it out to me recently and then it was quite obvious! I felt a little duh about it but yeah. He did seem to move quite differently than what we see in Yoshinkan.

In this use here it’s similar to zhou jin from taiji. Zhou in taiji refers to the elbow, jin is sort of translated as power. It’s not really about the elbow or power though, more how the elbow can create a curved feeling that I believe is being shown here. How a curve can negate something linear. Great video, thanks.
