It was amazing how they recreated Yoshiwara in the Jin drama on Netflix.Crazy how many STDs Jin had to treat just within Yoshiwara.I dont think they let gaijin into Yoshiwara establishments unless you go with a Japanese friend.

It's funny you mentioned Yoshiwara because when I moved to Japan I learned Japanese from a lady who was from Yoshiwara. She was 96. She actually has memories of her grandfather who was a samurai. No shit, no joke. So turns out when she was teaching me Japanese that she taught me the way she knows how to speak Japanese. So from then on everyone kept calling me old grandma. Because of the way I talked like an old grandma. It took me a whole year of asking people to explain what they meant before they stopped bullying me about it because they didn't know why I was talking like that. They thought I was just being an asshole. But I explained to them where I learned all of my Japanese from and they all immediately understood. They were making fun of me because they thought I was trying to pretend to be like a geisha or some shit. With the way I talked and my mannerisms while I talked. I still talk the same way lol

Thunberg wasn't just interested in plants. He was a legendary naturalist who wrote "Flora Japonica", and contributed to the later "Fauna Japonica". Unfortunately, he died before he could write, "Yujo Japonica."

I remember when the Japan Times used to post translations of Japan's tabloids on Sundays and the westerners who couldn't read Japanese could see the seedier side of Japanese culture, then the government pressured them to stop. I just thought of that, watching this. There's no way the Japanese gov can stop the people from learning Japan's secrets in the Internet age.

We heard about this story from Hayao Miyazaki in "Spirited Away" (Sen to Chihiro no Kami-kakushi). Some guy named Haku from the Dragon Host Club persuades Chihiro to work in Soapland to wash the filthy bodies of local and foreign monsters who think they are gods. Chihiro thinks that Haku is a great guy, but he really works with Hel, the goddess of the Underworld. Actually, this story is really generic and is prevalent globally. Just ask Jeffrey Epstein, Bill Gates and Hollywood Actors.
