I'm a 31y.o male from Sydney Australia who grew up liking diverse mix of music from metal, rap, hip-hop, R&B, EDM, you name it. Never listened to a drop of kpop except on our radio stations when Psy - Gangnam Style was big. I only discovered Blackpink literally a month ago and went down a fkn rabbit hole; now I'm literally obsessed. Like you said, ignoring their talents for a second which is obviously out of this world (given they can sing and rap in English, Korean and Japanese, as well as dance), but what amazes me and what's so interesting about them is how quickly they've become a global phenomenon around the world in just 5 damn years. English is global language across the world and Korean comes no where close, yet the combination of the two in a song, the level of production and visuals they put into their M/Vs and how they strive to perfect their craft each time, is just getting absorbed like a sponge righttttttt across the West, the East, and both Northern and Southern hemispheres. It's mind boggling and they deserve all the hype, respect and success. Great to see you catching onto Blackpink.

I'm a New Yorker, Rock/Rap guy, and when I discovered them after reading a tiny article about a "new girl group" my mind was blown, it's like my eyes were opened to something that I had never experienced, like discovering a new flavor that you never knew existed. Just to clarify the meaning of the song, KILL THIS LOVE can be looked at as a "relationship-ending" song, but its message is really about being introspective and changing yourself for the better. If you watch the four girls and read what they're talking about, they are each describing the reason why they get into toxic relationships. They realize that they must "KILL" this sort of behavior in order to have a healthier relationship. Jennie, on the black and white swans, discusses yin/yang, she feels that in order to have happiness there must always be sadness, and she knows that she is destined to repeat her mistake. Lisa, the "cereal killer" (sorry, couldn't resist) believes in quantity over quality. She wants it all, even though love to her is a short, sweet sugar high that leaves her feeling empty and needing more. Jisoo, in the church, realizes that she is weak, her stronger future self destroys her with a flaming arrow. I am a certified rock chick whose mode of transport is my motorbike I am over the hill and now starting the descent. I came to this group in 2020 thanks to my daughter and when I say this is not what I listen to it is an understatement. My jam is rock from AC/DC to Motorhead, Pink Floyd. Iron Maiden I go to download festival every year and Reading and Leeds. I am not a pop music fan it has its place but for the most part I don't like but I love these girls and I love LISA more for me she is what Legends are made from her back story is just WOW. What I like about BP is not only their music but their message about women empowerment. And some songs are about failed, abusive n toxic relationships n how women need to find the strength to leave. Btw, to me BP is not kpop. They have different elements in their music...hip hop, R & B, techno ect: The creative genius for BP is a YG producer named Teddy Park. He's a Korean American rapper from Los Angeles n moved to South Korea n signed a rap recording contract to YG n rose up the ranks. Hence the American influence on BP. When BP goes on concert tours their live band is a bunch of African Americans from the USA called Band 6.

I was not a k-pop listener for various reasons for a long time. Not my cup of tea. BUT BP completely blew me away about half a year ago just how they did to you on your first vid reaction. Now I’m a Blink (OT4 as in fan of all 4 girls. Not those solo stan). And I love the fresh reaction on BP girls as it reminds me of myself when I first discovered them. Super crazy, honestly. Didn’t know what I got myself into. They are still the only k-pop artists I’m listening to. Their vid productions are very highly budgeted and they do not like to use green screens. All scenes in BP videos are carefully designed to match their lyrics as a story telling. It’s symbolic. There are also lots of Easter eggs in their vids. Gotta pay close attention to those though.
