Looks great! One trick I learned when debadging is to take some fishing line wrapped tight around each index finger and then work the line in behind the badges and saw away at the glue. It works really fast and no risk of breaking them. Cheers man!

I’m a detailer I detail cars for a living you did good for what you had to work with, but some friendly tips it’s actually very hard to burn through paint even Toyota paint you would be surprised what the car can handle! A little more pressure with the buffer and some wet sanding would probably take a lot of those scratches out the dots you are seeing are acid spots from tree sap sitting so long. And as of the badges they need to be wet sanded off. Also wool pads leave swirls and streaks foam pads are the way to go! I am very impressed by your work on it I know black paint can be a pain!

Austin, good job. Look in the door and get paint code. 3M makes a touch up pen that I use for paint chips (highway rocks) and scrapes (woods) I use on mine. Keep in mind that hood, top of fenders and roof are the first to go with clear coat on Toyota’s. Having my 05 Tacoma painted in the summer. The touch up pen can be found on eBay.

Also if you really want to get the paint shiny buff with the car wet it will be harder to get the compound off but it will leave it looking brand new!

I always enjoy watching your videos, you do great work. I just started getting into car detailing and paint correction projects and I have a good luck with Jax Wax. They have a 3 step system similar to what you did. The kit comes with different pads ranging from microfiber cutting pad to light foam polish pad. Just my 2 cents. Look forward to the next video.

Austin another great job, me personally I would have opted to use sand paper and a paint gun lol. The investment to do everything you did would make a pretty good dent in a repaint but that's just my opinion, still it looks a lot better 👍

As the owner of a 98' 4Runner, I had the exact same problem with the paint (Black Paint). What the problem is, I found out, is that Toyota did NOT put many coats of paint, or clear coat on those vehicles. I had to wet sand, and in doing so, found out that I was fast down to the primer. Once I was down to the primer, I had no choice but to wet sand the rest. It's quite a joy experimenting with primer, primer, primer....3 coats of paint. If you truly want to rid yourself of those nasty looking spots, taking it down is the only way to go. I know you buffed until you were blue in the face, only to have no results in the sap-like spots that were on your car. Believe me, I KNOW!

Didn’t they use to make a product called black magic it was a polish that filled scratches with a black filler built right into the polish , might wanna check it out ? If the stuff that was on the side is some kind of chemical etch then the black magic might not work because it’s more of a stain than a scratch 🤔 But the yota is shiny 👍✌️

Everybody, take a drink 🍷 every time he says..."ETCHED IN THE PAINT." 😂 Must be a NEW phrase he just learned. Why do people do this? Use the word "ETCHED" instead of simply "SCRATCHED". I guess etched sounds more OFFICIAL. 😂

Because they are speaking more precisely. "Etched" means the paint was damaged by chemical insult, while "scratched" means the damage was done by physical insult.

I would just like to add a comment, I used the NXT wax in the video. I purchased the car brand new and polished it every 3 months with the nxt, i had the car for 12 years and it look showroom condition. Thats all i ever used with cheese cloth, no buffing nothing.

My 4runner has similar paint damage. I have never buffed a car before but I do have an old rotary buffer and can buy a dual action buffer. I have heard of burning through paint and I am worried of doing more damage than good. How worried should I be of damaging my paint, is it really difficult to do this without any prior experience?

Hey Austin, I really love what you do to these Toyota trucks. I personally intend to buy the same 4Runner (Just that we in Africa, they are branded Toyota Hilux Surf - but same same truck) and am amazed by what you do at your workshop...from fabrication to painting to fitting. What specific skill set does someone need to be able to do all that? Asking because am millions of miles away from the US and will have to fold my sleeves if am to make my 4Runner/Surf modified like yours.
