It's kinda of ironic, the government raises your property taxes so high that you can no longer keep your house, and then you have to go live in government subsidized housing because you can't even afford the high cost of a small apartment.

Basically what the protest is about is the appraisal amount since housing costs have skyrocketed. My homes appraisal went up $138,000 and my taxes went from in the $6,000 mark to into $11,000 and thats with Homestead and disabled exemptions..

Shouldn't your homestead exemption have capped the assessment value at a 10% increase over last year's assessment? The assessment amount is the amount that is taxed (different from the appraisal value).

What's crazy is that the government enforced limitations on landlords due to the pandemic (which I agree is helpful) but haven't given any help regarding taxes. In the next couple of years I see more people across the political spectrum really starting to push back on taxation in all its forms. At a certain point, the government needs to figure out how to do more with less

Be careful, many firms have clauses the set you up for annual fees when you sigh up unless you cancel in writing.

Because people are in bid wars over houses. They are paying above market value. The comps in the area are raising taxes. The average home price in the Metro is 400,000

@@whynot2644 I am not referring to appraisals. Of course they are going up. My point is that how can he know his property taxes increased 12k if tax rates have yet to be released. Tax bill isn't available until the taxing identities determine what tax rate they will use. And they use appraisals to determine if they need to lower or raise the tax rate since they are limited to a 3.5 percent revenue increase from the previous year total.

@@o4saken1 No, the tax rate is not set until the taxing entities know what the total appraisal for the all the homes are. That is done after the protests are complete. After that the taxing entities will set the tax rate. No tax rate is set until then. So it's impossible for them to set a tax rate now.

I have been protesting my property value for years, it's very easy. Photograph or video everything that you need to repair in the house, you have 3 to six weeks depends on what it say in the notice. Then send it in via mail or the website. Go with the website easier and faster to upload the videos and photos, they will send you back a date and time to talk to the court or council. Get an insurance assessor or contractor to evaluate or estimate your house repairs "get it in writing" and add it to the protest doc. Don't go with the home value in your neighborhood, their property prices are also up. I have a 90% success so far.

Mine went up $50k. I can't afford to stay and can't afford to go. As a Retired Senior. This is unacceptable and unfair. I did protest. They did not reduce the assessed value, but they did decrease Market Value $20k, INCREASED Improvement to $215k and increased land to $60k. Assessed value stayed the same. How are we supposed to live on Social Security when the government taxes right out of our homes. With Homestead and disabled exemptions

*Protest all you want, you're just kicking the can down the road(year).* Spoke to multiple famliy members in 4 different counties all over in Texas (last 2 years). Their land values(small lots where their homes are) have increased 8x to 10x in one year, and many for the first time. All attempted to protest, and fell on death ears. *We need to have some major changes!* Take Care & Safe Travels Everyone!

The property tax system in Texas is a joke. Tax payers are not supposed to pay tax based on market valuation appraised by county every year. The extra property tax you need to pay due to market appreciation is similar to paying IRS TAX on your unrealized gain for your stock portfolio. Property tax increase should be capped at same level as inflation. The cap could be higher for investment property.

@@timelessmusicfamilymusic9175 Often they let things slide unless there is a complaint. Here once a year they make a major sweep and send out letters. They do drive around and make sure your grass is mowed, etc
