No where in the Vedic literature does it define the individual is nothing. We are all 'nitya', eternal parts of the Supreme Consciousness. This fact is corroborated in sutra 2.3.16. There it is said, nAtma shruter nityayatvAc cha tAbhyah', that is the soul or the 'jivatma' is a partial 'kshetra-jna' or knower of the field of the body. Again in Brahma Sutra 2.3.24 it is stated 'gunAd vAlokatvat' that the soul by its quality pervades the whole body.

We are just waves, we are going to fall back to the ocean anyway, why bother? There is no reason for tapas or do anything one doesn't feel like doing. Why follow or surrender to any guru/deity unless it feels natural to do so? Is it okay to just be a contented hippie doing her own thing or nothing at all?
