To bring an understanble view of distance...our milky way is 100000 light years across...if you reduce the milky to 100 meters across. The universe is 46500km in every direction you look. Its easy to work out if we are alone....we're not... The amount of life out there... wow. Shame distance will prevent that discovery

10,000 times the milky way is if it's right over the edge. At the time, we only had that to go on, meaning it could be, for example, twice as far away from the edge and four times as big. If I recall right, they did a new gravitational analysis in the start of this year where they viewed drift vs doppler relative to distance to the edge, and also angles at nearby objects that aren't directly between, and observed that it's much further away, bigger than any galaxy we can observe directly, and that the source of the gravity is distributed over a great amount of distance, so it's not merely a really really big black hole? If that's right, it's kinda sad that we're not living in that part of the universe tbh.

My question is: We can't see the "great attactor" because the centre of our galaxy blocks the view but we can see other superclusters that aren't located on the "Laniakea super cluster" (our "continent" where the great attractor is attracting everything), shouldn't we be able to see on those other super clusters outside of it what "their version of the great attractor" is? This is how we discovered that there is a massive black hole at the centre of the milky way without actually being able to see it. Because we can see other galaxies and they all have it. We can see other superclusters, what are all the galaxies there being attacted to?

Like the video but I'm afraid that you messed up the distance meassuring part a bit. While it's true that redshift is correlated with distance, and that redshift can thus be used to get a very ROUGH estimate of distance, that's not the preferred method. Just think about it: How would we even know the two were correlated, if all we had to go by was the redshift? Something else is needed, and that something else is called "Standard candles". It's large stellar events who's brightness is predictable, like certain types of supernovae. When we see such an event we know exactly how bright such an event is supposed to be, and we can compare this to the brightness of the object we observe, and calculate its distance.

So, if you can find where earth was a hundred years ago, that would be the only way to travel back in time to earth, 100 years ago. So, does that mean that earth 100 years ago is a location, not just a time, does that mean that time IS location?
