Yes, I was just thinking that actually. The Miss Universe contestants of the 80s were highly sophisticated and elegant epitomizing on the qualities of femininity and grace. These days, almost every contestant has got fillers or botox put in, and seem more brash and manufactured. Does this reflect the passing of time where values have changed, expectations and mindsets have evolved for the woman of 2020 to be confident and outspoken, to be assertive and strong?

But, these past few years, the new generation of audiences seem to have become rowdy, and unruly at times. It looked like a sports event, instead of a beauty pageant. Just my own observation. 😉

This song is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and how wonderful it was to have the little children sing it. Every time I listen to it I cry because they no longer use it or the little sisters. Little girls need role models they can look up to today and this was one way to do it. Thank you for sharing such an inspirational song and one that will live in my heart forever.

This is magnificent! I absolutely love this masterpiece. I still remember when it was first used in 1987 up until 1994 as the main song for the evening gown competition (1995 when it was used only at the introduction of the evening gown). I really miss the classy, gracious, and majestic era of Miss Universe. Thank you for creating this masterpiece!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts...I have thoughts too and thought you might appreciate them. 1. I wrote this as an homage to my father, who, in addition to being a great Dad, he was also my mentor and my favorite philosopher...so when this piece came about, I flew with my Dad, for the full 7:00min piece...and then "When You Wish" came in the door, I invited her in and gave her a few new notes as an obligato of sorts over the original melody played by Tinker on her Bells...I was in a trance with my Dad and if you knew him and the most fun/brilliant/musical rapport we had (and we're still writing!) you would be shaking your head up and down... Thanks for reminding me...always wanted to share that moment of magic. 🙏

Miss Universe never had my music - I wrote it , produced it and provided it, they mixed it into the show live and I kept my entire library with me at all times...it is sad that this happened, but I went through a divorce and many moves after I left the show after 1997 - and in those moves, many things were lost and my mater library for the pageants were lost with them...in the event that they are found, I will be happy to post them. I receive many requests for various pieces over the 10 years I provided music for the Miss Universe Organization.

Maybe the song couldn't be used anymore due to Copyright or something. Remember that already in Namibia 1995 just the chorus was played, and an african song was used instead.

It has nothing to do with copyright...it happened when Trump bought the company in 1997...since then it has changed hands through a number of people and companies...I* own the copyright to "You Are My Star" and I also wrote it with Sid Smith, our producer at the time...time marches on...I was happy that my music lasted for 10 years...thank you for caring about this song...it is special to me because I wrote it as an homage to my father, who was my hero...
