Last Thursday my partner graduated from a wellness court and was sober exactly 700 days and was officially off paper. He was on his way back down south for work and it takes like 5 hours to get there. I got a call 4 hours after he left saying he's getting arrested. I got the money for his bail and drove middle of the night so I could get him out as soon I could that morning. I couldn't get him out yet so I had to wait. Amazingly the city is near the ocean. I got to be on the beach and it felt so strange, like a release, i am done with this life. I got him out of jail and haven't seen him since then. About 50 years ago I had a teacher ask me why are you trying to fit in, you know you will never be accepted. Many times in life, the fire hoses have been aimed at me. I always kept a few embers burning that allowed me to re-kindle the flame. In the summer the light/sun outlasts the dark. in the winter at best the times are even.
