I agree with you on this. For example, one of my favorite rides at Six Flags Magic Mountain is Goliath , because it helped me become brave to go on more intense rides and it's fun. But, one of my friends keeps on saying, " It doesn't have a lot of airtime", and it's gets annoying after a few seconds.

I’m sorry but infusion (Blackpool) and colossus (Thorpe Park) are ROUGH! I genuinely was in pain and infusion actually made my ears so sore that I swear I went deaf for a few seconds. I will never ride them again lol. Although I heard people complain about dragon khan and furious baco (Portaventura) but for me, it might of been where I was sat, I didn’t think it was that bad. Also I prefer air time over hang time as I find hang time sometimes hurts 😅

On one hand, you'd be surprised how many enthusiasts _aren't_ obsessed with having airtime in every ride. A lot of them appreciate laterals, hang-time, positives, zero-g moments and theming elements. It really depends on what the coaster is going for, and whether it delivers that. Beast, for example, doesn't offer a lot of forces apart from sustained positives and laterals in its monster helix, but it's not trying to be super forceful or an airtime machine, what it goes for is a playful romp through the woods, and that's what it delivers. On the other hand, while complaining about even the slightest rattle may be overkill, is there really anything wrong with wanting to be able to enjoy a ride _without_ having it beat seven kinds of crap out of you and take your shoes? I personally don't mind if a coaster is somewhat on the rough side, but if I come off of it with a nasty headache and back pain because the damn thing jackhammered the whole time that's going to negatively affect my park experience in general.
@rubenlikesrides_5 ай бұрын
i do know not all of them are obsessed with stuff like that but what im saying is that it does happen and its a little ridiculous that a lot of enthusiasts mostly only care about airtime. im also not saying that complaining about roughness is overreacting. i get if it actually hurts you, and thats bad, but if someone is complaining about the tiniest rattle that you dont feel unless your literally looking for it, thats overreacting. i was just saying to enjoy what the ride does instead of focusing on how rattly it is

Coaster enthusiasts when a wooden coaster is slightly rough and nowhere near as smooth as a steel coaster:
@Hellow413615 ай бұрын
You make good points, but there is a reason why airtime is so popular. Personally I love it but I unironically prefer hang time. I think what makes a good coaster is a range of forces. That’s why intamin blitz’s are so beloved by enthusiasts.
@rubenlikesrides_5 ай бұрын
you are correct, airtime is okay, i just dont get the hype. i do prefer hangtime too. while the intamin blitz is one of the best models, a big chunk of enthusiasts prefer steel vengeance which focuses almost entirely on airtime, so yeah, it varies.

@MattMcIrvinАй бұрын
I do think some enthusiasts are kind of like those craft-beer fans who only want to drink the hoppiest IPAs. They've got one sensation they've decided is the good one and they disparage all the other dimensions of experience. But... I think I really didn't *fully* get the appeal of ejector air until I rode Superman: The Ride and Wicked Cyclone at Six Flags New England, both of which use it in extraordinary ways. Shambhala is a wonderful example of floater air, for the most part (there's one ejector moment right after the turnaround). Enthusiasts seem to value ejector over floater because they want the more intense experience, but B&M know that the general public love floater air, so they pile it on. Something I've been trying to figure out is the perception of roughness--there are coasters enthusiasts say are rough that feel perfectly smooth to me, and coasters they think are tolerable that I think beat you up to an unacceptable degree. I think it's that the kind of roughness I can't really stand is extreme jackhammering, like you get on a wooden coaster that's years overdue for a retrack. I can take some janky transitions because that was what I grew up with, riding the old Arrows at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Also, I'm tall enough that I don't usually bang my head on over-the-shoulder inversions, except in some extreme cases.
@Dirkschneider5 ай бұрын
Look at it this way: Moving a coaster down the ranking because of 'a rattle' is actually to move 'coasters without a rattle' up the ranking. If you rate hundreds of coasters, 'a rattle' is something that can help you as a tier breaker between two equally fun rides.
@rubenlikesrides_5 ай бұрын
fair enough, but i was saying you dont need to worry about rattles if you dont pay attention to it, then you can rank them based on how fun they are
@Dirkschneider5 ай бұрын
@@rubenlikesrides_ And no one really do care about it....unless they have decided to rate it or to make a list. Maybe the silly thing is to rate rollercoasters in the first place? But we still do these things. The only important thing is if it's fun to ride or if a certain rollercoaster might actually be very unvomfortable to the point that it should be avoided. The rankings only become a thing when you are curious about which rides are 'the best'. Which rides should you search out? Maybe you have limited time at a park. I was at Fuji-Q Highland last month and at closing time I had to decide if I would ride Zokkon och Takabisha, knowing that I might never come back to that park. At that time a ranking could have been handy. But obviously, people value different things.

The worst is clairvoyance, complaining about a ride that's good for it's time that ends up becoming hated, even before that actually happens or shows much reason to do so. You might not be old enough. E.g. SLCs ... in 1996. As to roughness, I can see complaining if you're old but not 14 year olds. Rattle + weight on my chest though wasn't fun though, Iron Menace.
