I have to agree I buy what I like but when choosing my bag for the day, my mood also affects what bag I pick and what function I need the bag to do with my outfit (pockets or no pockets) in comparison to what I need to carry or do (shopping, work, or just lunch with friends) and it really has nothing to do with my identity or personality. But I love how a handbag can be one spot where everything has a place all neat and beautiful, as there isn't much in life that can be that pretty and controlled for very long.😅

I have in my handbag a love letter from my husband when we were dating. It makes me happy all over again when I find it.

Interesting topics. If I had unlimited resources I don’t believe there is any one brand or bag I would gravitate to. The luxury for me would be the ability to buy, guilt free, any bag that caught my eye that week or month . I would be willing to bet most times it wouldn’t be a high end luxury bag. But not having to rationalize when or where or how often I’m going to use it , when cost per wear doesn’t factor into the decision process....now, that would be luxurious to me😊

Very interesting and thought provoking episode. I enjoy beautiful handbags for their craftsmanship and style. I think of them as works of art. They don’t define me, but I think there are some people who rely on certain possessions to give them a sense of self worth. Something for me to think about the next time I hear a bag calling my name in the store! And by the way, you look lovely in that color, as well as the beautiful green you wore on a recent episode.

Hi Autumn. I like many different bags as well. I don't limit myself to designer bags. I have bags from Coach, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Italian brands as well as MCW Carpet bags and others. I even grabbed a cute mini backpack from Temu. Great video!

My handbag is my personality...errr....i do not agree too. I love varieties of handbags and like you mentioned, the choice of my handbag for that day is all depends on what i am wearing and my mood for that day. My work wear are all very basic neutral colors too thus my handbag for the day maybe a fun one to complete the look. But at times, i just could not be bothered and just use a black or white handbag. Yes a lot of people could not be bothered with their handbag or style unless one is a designer or one who has always in the mood and time to style up their outfits but i think most of us do not. Having said that, i do not limit myself to only a certain style especially on my handbags although i may use certain colors more than the other. I do not limit on how many handbags i need to have but certainly not too excessive too. Handbags that i no longer use, i will sell them unless those that has sentimental memory to me. Thanks for sharing 🤗🤩

I am always tweaking my "3 style words" to reflect my style, as once my Goth era ended, my preferences no longer aligned with a named aesthetic. The words don't Define me, but I hope they Reflect some elements of my personality. And thank you for addressing the practical matter of resources in this discussion. I love many haute couture pieces, the wearable art-ness of some designers. I will NEVER consider haute couture a reasonable use of my resources. That side of me will just have to be reflected with unusual pieces from my local consignment shop. Limited budgets do not define anyone's essence. Those statements always make me think of people who try to buy their identities, or those who are so bland that they can. Finally, money-is-no-object bag... a green Bvlgari Serpenti bag. I can't decide which one. With a rotating array of the Serpenti jewelry.... this is fun!

I love this topic. I only choose bags that make my heart sing. I have every day bags and evening bags. I am drawn to color and practicality. I rotate all my bags accept 3 special ones for special occasions.

I agree, different mood, different style. Sometimes casual, sometimes a bit more elegant. My priority is quality leather.❤Re a bag being a blank canvas, I always do something to make a bag mine ~ a charm, a twilly, change out the strap...Thanks, Autumn, fun topic.🎈🌻

It’s more about what I like and function for me. I do agree with safety but in the opposite way. If a bag is too flashy for where I’m going, will it draw attention to me. Most of the time no, but living in a big city it is an occasional concern.

The only thing I can come up with about the handbag being a blank canvas is someone using their handbag as the focal point and building their wardrobe around the handbag. A Chanel classic flap is going to look different with jeans and a band tee than with a tweed suit. I do think that people tend to focus on one thing, whether that be shoes or handbags or clothes. I think it is a lot more rare for someone to be completely full fashion forward.

My style is very similar to yours. When you described it you were pretty much describing me. The only difference is I don’t do bag charms. I like the way they look but whenever I’ve had them they end up bothering me and I take them off. 🩷

This video is riveting! I could write whole chapters! To sum up, I find myself agreeing with you! If you want a peek at Inez’s Paris apartment, it is featured in Taschen’s book PARIS INTERIORS though I don’t remember if it was Volume One or Volume Two. Thank you for the video!

This was very interesting and now I've got a bunch of random thoughts! First, people will always want to belong to certain groups (the human need for safety in numbers) and what we wear signals that to others. It's gotten a bit out of hand post-industrialization and now with social media because we automatically group ourselves into neat demographics created by marketing teams. But the truth is that humans are complicated and adaptable and want to express their feelings, which change, while maybe their social status or profession or whatever does not. That can create internal conflict. Not to mention external conflict when someone pretends to be something they're not (wearing a bag they "shouldn't" or, god forbid, carrying a fake- a social faux pas, or else it used to be. I think it's significant that it's no longer seen as shameful, because we are now a society of people who are expected to express freely and social class is (supposed to be) no longer a thing we are concerned about. It would be neat to see (and I'm sure many a PhD has been done on this) the history of women's handbags and how that reflects their changing role in society. A historical "what's in my bag" and what that would mean at different times. One of the most famous handbag carriers has to be the late Queen Elizabeth II. Would love a video on her handbags, how it was the same style for decades, just in different colors to match the outfits, and the eternal mystery of what she had in there. Also, the fact that a woman was the UK monarch for so long and that the world was attuned to handbags is fascinating to me. Finally, the concept of a woman's bag being a bottomless pit, which I believe is the joke with Mary Poppins' carpet bag, from which she pulls lamps and whatnot. This was also in Harry Potter, when Hermione charmed her bag to be able to hold absolutely anything.

I learned to ignore what the experts define as style. My style in terms of fashion and decorating changes according to my mood and my circumstances. I don't have a good body, good feet, or good hair, so I can't wear what I love. I'm lucky I don't have to go into an office, so I can wear casual clothes. I do love a wide variety of bags, SLGs, and jewelry, but again, mood and circumstances dictate what I choose that day. I am careful about what I wear when I go places because I don't want to be a target. And I must wear fragrance because I don't like the smell of raw skin. All this said, in the perfect world in my head, I would want to dress like Princess Catherine of Wales because she is a natural beauty with exceptional taste in clothes and I would have at least four Hermes bags, one Chanel shoulder bag, a Louis Vuitton Neverfull and a Speedy 25.

´You are what you wear’ definitely does not apply to me. I could never stick to one particular style of clothing. I have quite a variety of clothes in my closet and I like all of them. In the morning I dress according to my mood. Same goes for handbags, allthough I am not so much into those . I have been wearing a black DKNY bag for the last couple of days. By the way, I am Belgian and I follow a lot of youtubers, many of them are Americans. All of them make me laugh out loud with their ‘advice’ on how to dress when you go to Europe: do not wear sporting clothes, do not wear caps, do not wear backpacks, do not wear baskets..I am telling you - in Europe you can wear whatever you feel confortable in.
