For me as a lefty, handwriting with a fountain pen is taking the time to think deeply about what is put down on the paper, and than reflecting on it with the right part of my mind. It is a dance between the delicate calligraphy of the left hand and the effects it has on my thoughts. Sometimes it’s the stroke that dictates the word which points towards the thought rather than the thought that finds the right words and then becomes the stoke of the pen. This is simply not achievable for me with an electronic device and a keyboard.

I came here tonight quite by accident. I was journaling, as I have for decades. Tonight, I am using my Pelikan 600 with bold orange ink. I listen to music as I write and always use one of my fountain pens. I use my fountain pens and excellent paper to write letters to my children and grandchildren often. Samuel, you are a breath of fresh air, inspiring and wonderful. I write with many different pens and ink and my children used to ask why in some letters I use more than one color of ink and at times different pens with nibs from fine to OBB. I tell them they can see my mood as I write. They have learned to feel me as they read my words by the sweep of a nib or the color of the ink. These are very personal things, private things for many. i love cursive in my school they taught those who could write and spell with a fountain pen and cursive was what they taught us to use and im out of that school now but whenever i find my self with a fountain pen i use that style and it makes me feel amazing each time

What a profound and interesting chat Samuel, more such please! As a student, due to not using shorthand and having to take copious notes my handwriting began to suffer. Now many years later having returned to using fountain pens, my oftentimes illegible handwriting began to take its original shape and my previous Copperplate style gradually reappeared. I'm still cultivating it, and pay particular attention when taking notes on the Roman theatre. Chosing great pens considerably contributed to this. What I feel? So priviledged to not only use them for listing anything but for recording reflections and plans. So glad Switzerland still has fountain pens for school age children, it is an incredible gift.

When I was young, maybe 7-8 years old, one of my teachers held me back as my classmates enjoyed recess. She sat next to me and reviewed an assignment I had turned in. Apparently I was writing with a slight upward direction, meaning as my sentences were written each word that followed was slightly higher than the previous. She was concerned I had some kind of learning disorder and insisted that I write with ruled paper. I went on to score highest in my class on an IQ test, and am now in medical school pursuing a degree in medicine. I am my handwriting. I don’t like to conform to the boundaries of society or adjust my expressions to meet people’s expectations. This video struck a cord with me, thank you. Still saving up for a Pelikan M805, maybe when I graduate I’ll get it as a gift to myself 😉

Gracias por tu vídeo Samuel y por mostrarnos tu escritura. En actualidad, a mi me cuesta mucho trabajo escribir igual que cuando fui a la escuela hace bastante tiempo (no digo los años, 😄) Mi letra ha cambiado bastante, sin embargo alguna vez trato de escribir con cursiva, pero me sale tan mal que me aburre y vuelvo a mi letra actual. Escribir es uno de mis ejercicios preferidos. Saludos
