People forget Ste grew up rough, living through domestic abuse from his stepdad every day, long before Brendan. Just because Ste is bi, expressive and flamboyant, and a nicer man these days doesn't mean he doesn't know a worse more repressive way of life--actually, he's sadly an expert in it. He even had a period in his life where he himself was a physical abuser too (to poor Amy). It's why he's so anxious about Lucas not witnessing the same or going down the same road.

It’s good to see Lucas & Ste have a heart to heart. But, I wish Ste didn’t say to his son “Be glad you’re not gay. I’ve brought enough drama in this family for all of us.” Especially with what’s going on between Lucas and Dillon.

Speaking as someone who watched HO in the 2000s when Ste was a kid, I know Ste isn't being outright homophobic out of bigotry, but out of self-hatred. He grew up with homophobic parents, and his stepfather was a physical domestic abuser, so sadly he subconsciously learned at a formative age that to be different or 'weak' (r: not a typical straight man) meant he was a failure or lesser. That's why he fell in with drugs and delinquency so young, and why he had so much confusion and repression and torment over his sexuality. Ste as far as we the audience know has never gone to therapy or addressed any of these deep-seated inner beliefs he has, so they continue to wreak havoc on his life by constantly reaffirming in the background of his mind. Also, ftr Ste is a bisexual man with a preference for men, but Hollyoaks with its ever-charming and continual bi-erasure in the writers' room doesn't like talking about that. You can be anything under the sun except bisexual, apparently (notice all the bi characters either die, get written out, or become excusively gay or straight after one storyline? Funny, that.)

@@pendafen7405It's so annoying, it's both biphobic and homophobic. Ste was a originally written as a hetero character, then gay, then bi and I think gay again. It's worse when they make gay/lesbians characters go str8/bi. Also, Ste is the character who most changed the sexuality in the show.

Beautiful scene and well acted. Oscar and Charlie are the best teen actors on the show. And in Charlie's case, he's not just one of the best teen actors on the show, he's one of the best actors in Hollyoaks. Ste should be careful what he says. Lucas did push James, but James' responded with physical violence and thus, regardless of what came before, he's responsible for what he, and he alone, did. It wasn’t James who got Harry killed. It was Breeda thinking he’d be an unfit father. I think Ste needs to be more compassionate to James.. He should know what it’s like to get stuck in a cycle of abuse. Just look how he treated Amy.
@ceruleanshadowx
@ceruleanshadowx Жыл бұрын
@@serenjns Breda thought he was an unfit father because he was running away from being arrested. He wouldn’t have run away if James didn’t drug him once to miss getting an albi. Or drug him the second time to miss his court hearing. Just because Ste abused Amy doesn’t mean he has to tolerate people hurting his kids. Also Ste abuse started and ended with Amy. James has a history.
@serenjns
@serenjns Жыл бұрын
@@ceruleanshadowxHarry made plenty of his own mistakes without the help of James. Breeda’s motivation was more than just anything James did. Harry made it clear he wasn’t ready to be a father. I’m not suggesting Ste tolerate James’s actions. I’m just suggesting he show more compassion and give him a chance to change. He’s written him off far too quickly. The amount of times Ste has done something that required forgiveness, you’d think he’d be more open to it. He beat his baby mama, he was addicted to drugs, he slept with is sister’s boyfriend, he’s cheated numerous times, he joined the far right. I’m sure there’s more that just isn’t springing to mind. Ste needs to give James more of a chance.

@@ceruleanshadowx I’m not justifying anything. James is a flawed man. He’s never really dealt with the horrific abuse he grew up experiencing. While I'm not condoning James's actions, I can understand why he did what he did. Lucas was being a manipulative little brat. And being raised the way James was with a father like Mac has really left its mark on James, he's simply a damaged person. Lost his mother, then his little sister, can't be surprised he'd go to great lengths not to lose Ste. James is a good man who just needs help.

Oh my OA I feel sorry for James, Lucas and Ste I know James was trying to bond and get to know him as well but he shouldn’t’ve pushed him away like that and I’m not fond of what James did to Lucas but he shouldn’t’ve pushed him I really feel sorry for both. I read that Lucas tries to get them back together this week but it doesn’t go so well but James also said that he’s going to go to anger management therapy and I really do hope he’ll get back together with Ste. I know I know what you’re all thinking most of you have all been at James’s throat since the very beginning he and his Family arrived in the village but I didn’t like him at first either but I’ve grown on him and I do believe that Ste should’ve been there for his Kids and he also should remember what he did to Amy back then (which I don’t understand why he did it to her) still I really am not happy what they’re doing to James or #Stames but I believe there’s hope for James to be a a good Father/Stepfather and Husband I really believe there’s good in him he needs help as well as Lucas. I even read that next Year Ste and Lucas will be included in the conversion thera but I hope Dillon, James and John Paul will work together to end that group. I’m not happy what they’re doing to my favorite character James and my favorite couple but I get what you’re all saying about James but I hope he won’t be disbarred or lose his job. 🥺
