That Consort's face could curdle milk. General Ling is a respected General and adopted son of our Emperor but he is also feared he has shown no interest what so ever to any other woman until a chance meeting when she didn't even show her face but he knew that who ever it was in that carriage was the one he was looking for and it was cemented at the Lantern Festival once he spotted her there was no one else there it was just her. His face was stern but oh those eyes of his lit up truly smiling from his eyes and it never wained not once even 5 years which if people stepped back would know it was needed Shaoshong needed to grow up

Concubine Yue is my favourite of all my favourites in this show. I would like to see the unedited/expanded version asap, but considering the hell that China is going thru right now, one must wonder if we will end up seeing it. Let all the entertainers go to Taiwan so they can at least have more diverse scripts. Although this is a great show, how many times have we seen a show about the more than capable adopted son of the Emperor?!

I love...love....love Concubine Yue!!! It also helps that the Emperor loves her so much that she is able to say whatever she wants to say. The dynamics between the Emperor and his 2 wives in this drama was so heartwarming. I loved that they were all in sync and harmonious with each other and there were no evil intent or backstabbing between the 2 wives.

Every time Consort Ruyang appears, she always questions and criticizes Shousang, but General Ling is behind Shousang protecting her from any harm. This time Consort Ruyang showed up uninvited at the family banquet to celebrate General Ling's uncle's death anniversary, and as soon as she arrived, she started criticizing Shousang but General Ling was ready to defend Shousang against Consort Ruyang. While Consort Ruyang and General Ling are arguing, Concubine Yue arrived, and publicly, she kicked Consort Ruyang out of her seating spot. Concubine Yue said, "Aunt, you're in my seat. I ask you to give it back." It took some time for Consort Ruyang to move. Everyone was quiet even the Emperor was not saying anything. This scene made me laugh so hard. Yue-fei has a good heart. I haven't had time to watch this drama completely, but is their a reason why she's not the Empress, because she seems to be the more proactive Consort to his highness, instead if his legal wife, Xuan Huanghou? In ancient aristocratic families, mostly in the East, many times Noble young men already have a few concubines in the home before they are even given a Wife-Consort(legal wife), whole will eventually outrank them all. I wonder if that was the case here.

The Empress was given the higher position because the Emperor needed her family's support (money, soldiers, etc) during the civil war. The support was conditional upon his marrying her, AND giving her the higher position. (Per her family, NOT her idea.) When that happened, the Emperor was already married to the Consort, who should / would normally be the primary wife. So the Emperor has the unusual circumstances of having two official wives, but only one is the Empress. (There are also two concubines mentioned, but they don't appear on the show, nor have anywhere near the status or power of the 2 wives.) These weird circumstances are why you almost always see all three of them together, and one reason why there is such animosity between the two groups of children.
