For purely selfish reasons I'd be really like to see if you guys could one day get OSP or MiniMinuteMan on, just because I think a wiki discussion with them could be really interesting and funny.

44:46 - fun fact: technically, Satan isn’t a character in the Bible. Satan isn’t a name, it’s a job title, and iirc, it only ever appears in the Bible when someone is doing that job; it means ‘accuser’ or ‘adversary’, and people who were satans were essentially those whose job it was to play devil’s advocate or naysay things so they could be thought through properly (so I guess kinda like the opposite of a Yes Man).
@BeOtterMyFriendАй бұрын
As the Bible is not univocal that is partly true. It changes over time from being "an accuser" (I think one of the angels at Sodom is given that job description, but don't quote me on that) over gaining a definite article and being "the accuser" to being a specific character. It's very interesting from a cultural point of view as it is basically fan fiction, filling the gaps of the franchise you like and some of the ideas ending up in canon. The whole fallen angels and adversary of God thing that is taken for granted in the new testament comes from non-canon texts, apocalyptic literature. I am sure "Religion for Breakfast" and "Data over Dogma" have great videos about it.

"HaSatan" means accuser is biblical hebrew. You are 100% correct
@BeOtterMyFriend4 күн бұрын
@@ihatecomicspodcast6813 Am I correct in thinking that Satan is accuser and HaSatan being *the* accuser? I have it down as being one of the evolutionary steps I described from being a position taken up by several individuals to a recurring specific individual in this role and in the end a fleshed out named character.

The American Dad one is actually more wild lmao. I love that episode cause the lore is they pissed off Santa Claus and now he tries to destroy the Smith Family each year. You eventually get a revelation that Jack Smith, Stan's Father, is Krampus lol
@TheLastSane1Ай бұрын
Well no he becomes Krampus after the original is killed. He trapped Krampus as a child and Krampus is awesome in that episode

It was Bill Hicks who did the bit about Jesus not wanting to see a cross when he came back. Like going up to Jackie Onassis with a sniper rifle pendant.

I was someone who stopped believing in Santa at a very young age. It is because of losing the magic so early that I value keeping it for as long as possible in the younger generations

1) My friend's dad had a big white beard. Her sister had a job in the school near where they lived. She overheard one of the kids telling another, "I know Santa's real. I've seen him driving a mini van." 2) Another bearded friend had some kid in Walmart point at him and start screaming, "MOM! IT'S SANTA!" My friend ducked around a corner before the mom could see him but the kid kept loudly insisting he'd seen Santa, allowing my friend to avoid them and make his escape. The same friend also had some random woman ask if she could sit in his lap and tell him what she wanted for Christmas.

41:32 - allegedly, being crucified was part of his plan, so maybe he’d be okay with it? Granted, said plan was to have himself sacrificed to himself to save humanity from the wrath of himself, so clearly he’s not the most stable of folks, so we probably cant use logic to predict his reaction to things. 🤷🏻♂️

I saw the horror comedy Krampus [2013] in theaters. Weta Workshop did a great job on the effects. I thought it was entertaining; and though some aspects of the writing is a little shaky, it really is a Christmas Spirit film, so it makes sense even if some parts can be a bit tough to sit through.

For something Krampus adjacent (not actually krampus but legitimately santa but turns out real legend says he's a monster) you might enjoy 2010s Rare Exports A Christmas Tale, a fun Finnish horror film

I didn't even bother watching the "Is Die Hard a Christmas Movie" video, because... it's just not, and I'm kind of sick of people BSing about it. Like there are parts of Heavy Rain, where you shoot people with a gun, if I went around describing it as a 'shooter' anyone who went into it with those expectations would at least be very confused.

I mean it's only part of a much longer discussion that we have about the full movie. We can't just describe the whole conversation in a few words for a title. - Lucas
