You Can Do A lot with the Roland SPD SX PRO!

I have been using the Roland SPD-SX pro in my live electronic hip-hop band and I am wondering if I should be designating specific pads (like the 808 and kicks) to specific output channels. For now I only use the main line output for everything and give that single line to the mix, but I have been thinking for a good live mix we need to separate the lows and highs.

That's not a bad idea to separate the highs and lows. I also just put the whole mix into the main output. I'm going to look more into using multiple outputs for live and recording.

I would definitely recommend sending kicks to one output and snares/claps to a second output for the front of house. If you use other samples, like FX, atmosphere etc, send them to a third output. The SPD-SX PRO has enough outputs for you. Sound engineers will generally appreciate that, as long as they have enough inputs 😅Since this is not always the case it's good to be prepared with a copy of each kit on your setlist where you just use the main outputs. In my experience it's also good to bring a couple extra line boxes and XLR:s since many venues don't seem to have enough.. Hope this helps! // Oskar, drummer of ReElektro
