You can drive a Manual? Marry me!

I have been through some crazy relationships and disasters, but I am now happily married. While my wife is now busy changing diapers and chasing our newborn around the house, when we first met she would follow me around the country searching for cars and more! It could be argued that the catalyst of our relationship was a “spirited” road trip to join the Gold Rush in my former 2011 Porsche GT3RS. She proved to me she could handle 2 days of intense driving AND drive a manual transmission... and I think that’s when I fell in love!

Only Europe and South America do you find manuals readily anymore. The rest of the world is far outweighed by automatics.

When I learnt to drive in the late 70s in new Zealand just about all cars were manual so we had no choice but to master stick shift .these day however all car over here are mainly auto so all the young ones are choosing that over manual trans

I was dating my wife when I was driving a Porsche Carrera and she did not care what kind of car I drove. Later I had a chance to buy a nice used red Alfa Spider. While going on trips she started driving the stick shift Alfa Spider and had fun with it!

Great story. My friends and I in the DTMPOWER scene snuck into the 4 Seasons/Olympic hotel garage overnight in Seattle to start a gold rush rally to Vegas. Police escort out of town and the news stations at the hotel to record the exit of the cars. What a blast and memory. Had a red E36 M3 at the time.

Dude, you said it all. I fell in love with my wife because she is the same cool chick, that loves driving manuals. We have been married now for 28 years. I just retired and told her we are getting a Porsche 996 turbo for our fun car. You know the first thing she said to me? Go for it, make sure it is a manual I hate these damn paddle shifters. She just turned 60 and drives our 2019 3.5 BMW X3 with the shifters, not in auto mode. She worked until she was 50 downtown DC and her car was a Mini john Cooper works, manual and the day we sold it (because she started working from home and needed an SUV) she said its like losing a child. Well, we are going to be living 6 months in Florida now that I am retired and 6 months in Greece. She already told me you get the 911 I am getting a AWD John Cooper works mini for Greece.

Cool story my wife could drive manual as well freaked me out when I met her she was 18 at the time. Her dad was a long haul truck driver and said you don’t know how to drive unless you can drive a manual so he taught her how to drive at 16 in an old Ford F-350 diesel. We are going to teach our daughter as well although she may never need it in the future with the way cars are going.

Im curious, those of us who drive manuals daily. when your in 3-4 gear coming to a stop light. do you ALWAYS downshift, or do you simply drop it in neutral from 4th? i do that most, its easier and im not tryna rev bomb the Rav4 next to me all the time lol. what do you do?
