People have reported that the screws holding the module into the happymodel case can tear out of the plastic from normal stress of inserting the pins. The case comes with a foam double-sided tape to hold the board down, which people report is useless and just pulls off. Some people use stronger 3M extreme mounting tape to hold the board down, in addition to the screws. If you do this, be aware the tape can rip components off a PCB, so don't go crazy using too much of it in case you ever need to remove the board.

How to make the stock module box work consistently for 2.4ghz tx: cut down tx board mounting post by about half, install empty module box into radio, install Tx into module and radio pins, snug tx bolts, go send! Edit: I used this on the OG white nylon 3D printed case and it worked well.

The foam I got with mine isn't even thick enough to contact the board and the case at the same time...

Roll up that foam tape and shove between pin header and module lid to hold the important part firmly in place. This is the accepted method of happymodel ES24TX assembly 😅

@@leadfingers Using the white module box (the one which does not have the ventilation fan top cover) I had to remove the plinth where the radio pins enter the case as well as cut the mounting lugs in half. Then use the screws to mount the board and throw away the pad. The pad is too thick and without the pad between the board and the back of the module ventilation and hence cooling is much better.

Great review. I would like to suggest you to try edgetx with 500Hz. I am pretty sure you will be able to feel the difference. Flashing edgetx is the most straight thing ever. Hey there Joshua, Just a tip, if you connect your PC to the RX/TX u are flashing, when u build, you can just click build and flash, and it will automatically build and flash the rx/tx. no need to open the website, no need to use your phone, saves a lot of steps.
@p.i.engineer398

for the EP Rx, build & flash is a bit less steps. Power up, wait for fast flash, connect to wifi with your computer, hit - build and flash. It will build the firmware and flash it for you right inside of the configurator.

This is such a great tutorial video Joshua. I had to refer back to it again after getting a second TX module for my classroom radio. I've been a crossfire user for years, but I am an expresslrs convert now. The only things this video doesnt address is the complications one might encounter when they attempt to flash with methods OTHER than wifi. the wifi solution works flawlessly. Other options, not so much. Also, the latest version (as of today) of expresslrs firmware is version 2.0, (and configurator 1.3.2) and it has changed quite a bit since the last version. Regardless, all of the information in this video still applies.

i'm with you on that. I run Ghost and it's awesome, my only complaints are the price of the receivers are 3 times the cost of the ELRS ones. I picked up some ELRS receivers, a module and the TBS tracer micro conversion kit to use for the module box and i think i might just use that for future builds and keep Ghost on my current builds and just switch modules. If IRC can get their receiver prices down then sticking with Ghost would be a no-brainer.

Joshua: I know you did not discuss the HappyModel EPW5 PWM receiver in this video, but I suspect you may know the answer to this question: The EPW5 Express LRS 3.4 ghz receiver has an extra PWM channel that fixed wing pilots will like & probably need to use. My problem as a newbie in transmitter setup is that I'm not sure how to make maximum use of channel 5, and I've been told that chanel 5 on this Rx can only handle two states (like enable on/off), but I think I read/viewed somewhere that its real purpose is to enable up to 5 flight controller modes using a switch (or set of switches on the TX16s) OR a slider potentiometer to select each of 5 different flight controller states. My question to you is, can this in fact be done, and could you show us how to set this up using the EPW5 & a transmitter with a slider potentiometer? Thanks! - Jim

Hi Joshua. I'm sad that ExpressLRS HappyModel EP1 RX is not working for me well. I just got it few days ago. Once I bring out my quad in our cold weather temps, I could hardly arm it which is extremely weird. Once I bring it inside the house and acclimated again to the normal room temperature, I'd be able to arm it many times without any issues. I already brought it up to the ExpressLRS Community in Discord and one of the folks told me "could be temp.. oscillator freq shift". :( I'm quite depressed because I heard to many good things about ExpressLRS and on my first time trying it, it performs like this. I resoldered back my XM+ for now. I hope Pyrodrone will be able to help me.

I care less about range more about good reception around slops and forest areas.

The whole thing seems like a pretty attractive option. Especially the idea of never having to replace an RX antenna again cuz it got eaten by the props. But here’s what I’m wondering: how does that antenna hold up whilst bando-bashing for example? Will it failsafe as soon as you turn the corner around a slab of concrete when it’s already buried under/behind a GoPro, frame and/or battery? And every antenna has a dead zone, right? So what does that look like for this little fella?

Would love to see those compared with crossfire when it comes to penetration. Technically at the same power in open area 900MHz it will have longer range but both are so long range it doesn't matter for 99% but penetration might be a different story maybe not total failsafes but hiccups. Also how well it works with a lot of popular 2,4GHz frequency sources. Basically does crossfire make sense for difficult environments or is ELRS running circles around it anyway.
