I hope thar you won't see this as disrespectful, but I personally disagree. Not necessarily because I have the notion that Love can't "realistically" be an emotion, it could (should) have been, but Pixar decided to revolutionise the idea by making a more subtle or implicit version of Love; Embarrassment. Apart from the obvious detail of them both being pink, and both tend to make you blush, Embarrassment is like Love but more open and extendable. Thus it allows them to make Embarrassment a 3-dimensional character. If they were to make a 10th emotion, I feel like it would be Confusion, with a brown/beige/tan aesthetic

The real reason is that Disney made a mistake in showing the inside of Riley’s parents’ minds and they couldn’t exactly make a sequel that didn’t change the status quo at all. Why are all of the mom’s emotions female? Why are all of the dad’s emotions male? Why don’t they have any more emotions? All of these questions can be chalked up to them not planning for a sequel.

I think that each of the "new" emotions are just a more specific form of the original ones. If you think about it, Anxiety and Embarrassment are just types, or by products, of Fear, Envy would be something along the lines of Disgust, and Ennui seems like a combination of Disgust and possibly Sadness. Especially as Riley is going into highschool those feelings of embarrassment, anxiety, and Envy can become more pronounced and sometimes seem to take over. With that in mind, it could be that by the end of the movie, all the emotions learn to adjust to each other, or eventually, those new emotions will disappear as Riley's emotions become more generalized with a better understanding of themselves as she matures. As far as the gender thing goes, there's been a theory since the first movie that Riley may be something along the lines of non-binary, thus the combination of genders, which would be cool. But I also think it's possible to be the same as Riley's maturing

I think the idea is that those emotions stick around, but when you emotionally mature, they merge. As a kid/teen, most things are seen as binary, and it's hard to envision the gray area. But sadness could also be embarrassment, fear could also be anxiety, and I don't know the other two but I hope you understand what I'm getting at. With emotional maturity, you realize that almost nothing, and ESPECIALLY not emotions, are black and white. Actually, it's the same lesson from the first movie. The whole point of that was Joy trying to shut out sadness, only to realize that the two are not mutually exclusive. There is mixture, there is a grey area

From what I see and understand from human emotions, once all 9 emotions are finally revealed they start to run situation based shifts, aka the main will remain the main but depending on situation any 1 or 2 of these main ones are substituted cause they've learnt to work together but the reason why at first these new emotions try to lock away the old ones I cause the body hasn't adapted yet. Maturity is when a proper system has been created for each and all emotions to function in a way that doesn't interfere will any of the others

I believe it's more of that 5 are the main ones. Like the ones who are in control at all times.. And I also think that this is what differentiates each person's personality in addition to their upbringing and environment. All emotions in a normal functioning human will be part of the system but depending on personality and environment which of the many emotions are the main 5 and which of the 5 is the leader changes. So for a teenager who doesn't have this fully arranged sophisticated system, the new and old emotions will keep trying to suppress eachother (usually the new will win at first) but as the individual grows, learns, matures etc the old and new emotions slowly form a system that will cause the old emotions to go be the main (for some people 1 or 2 old emotions will replaced by new ones) and the other emotions will become substitute emotions that are capable of showing but don't have reigns over the individuals behavior like the main emotions do

I predict that inside out 2 will be about riley going through her teen years through puberty. I believe at the begening of the movie rileys playing hockey, on her thirteenth b-day joy tries to make it a perfect day, later on that night however when all the emotions are asleep, we'll almost all exept for sadness, she hears this faint alarm that wakes her up, she says what is that, she wakes up the rest of the emotions, fear tells joy it's the puberty button, all of a sudden a loud sound blares all over headquarters alerting the mind workers to come in and give the place an upgrade. The next day Joy notices the console turns orange, we meet Anxiety along with three other new emotions, envy a small character, Enuuie which is boredom, and embarrassment. Anxiety tells joy she plans for the future, joy tries to ignore her, and all five emotions feel overwhelmed of these new ones. On the first day of high school Anxiety wants joys support joy tells her not now, without Anxiety help, joy makes riley bisexual causing her to point fingers at the new girls boobs, rileys feels embarrassment after doing this. Anxiety tells joy, and the rest of the gang riley requires all sufistacated emotions then all of u, Anxiety tells embarrassment to bottle them up. Anxiety let's operation new riley began. As a result this causes riley to feel bored, and all stressed out just to impress this new girl. Her parents notice her acting up and when rileys mom checks in to see If She's pack ennui, and Anxiety takes control riley tells her mom I'm the worst, and I look gross to go to camp. Rileys parents decide to find a therapist for her behavior. A week later riley sees her first therapist Mrs.Fran, one of san francisco great therapy. Meanwhile the five emotions are stuck in long term joy reminds sadness have I ever steered u wrong before, sadness reminds her many times. Joy is cofiedent that riley still needs them. They travel through long term, and a day later end up in a river about to head down a waterfall, the gang screams, fear is so terrified, what is that. It's the sarcasm said one of the mind workers, sarcasm joy replied, joy does something stupid boy are we glad we ran into u guys, the mind workers tell them wow those guys are jerks, anger says the same thing. Back in headquarters it's been over a week, and rileys parents, and teachers notice she been feeling more anxious, and envious at home, and school. Riley goes to see her Therapist one last time and then she told Mrs. Fran If she could use tools to help her Anxiety. Mrs. Fran just tells her well I don't know what to do with u ms. Riley, you have to find ur own path in life, this is so sad I've never had a therapist thats told me that before. At the end of the film the five emotions eventually find their way back to headquarters, they end up defeating Anxiety, and joy gets along with the three new emotions, Envy, Enuuie, and embarrassment work together with the fear, disgust, anger, and sadness together they end up making riley like all girls. At the end of the movie riley runs away from home, and heads back to Minnesota with her new girlfriends. My last prideiction is a post credit scene where riley runs into Meg, and introduces her to her new girlfriends, Meg is shocked are u crazy she tells riley.

Lowkey, I feel like when I became an adult I never feel bored anymore because you have so much to do, and so many responsibilities. Anxiety is a rare emotion for me, it was heightened the most when I was 18, but that's about it, usually, it's just fear of a bad outcome or consequence. Same with embarrassment, like yeah you can be embarrassed, but that is just a branch of fear as well. And technically, kids can feel embarrassed to, like when Riley had the bad dream where she forgot to wear her pants to school. Im reading the theories and im starting to think it just depends when she grows up lol, like young Riley didn’t have as many complex emotions so main five, teenager Riley may have issues with some emotions and just straight up decide to suppress them and hide them into a jar like in the trailer. The really gross thing is that it wasn’t Rosa’s server. It was Star’s server and NeKopan (idc about spelling), the predator, Star’s friend, commissioned artist, was also high ranked mod. Rosa basically had no say and any action she could have done, lack of mental capacity or not, could be overruled and overwritten by the very toxic server owner. They berated a severely disabled woman for not reporting the crime(who had no capacity to) , when they didn’t report the crime either (getting the police involved). Instead, the turned her into a scapegoat for content and let the real perpetrators get away with it.

Well, the parents only have the 5 emotions and they all look alike, whereas Riley's all look different. Maybe the emotions combine into more complex emotions. So fear and anxiety combine, disgust and embarrassment combine, anger and envy combine, and that leaves Joy and boredom to combine. Sure, im not the brightest tool in the shed , but i believe there is only 3 emotions , happyness , sadness , and angryness (not a word) the rest are just terms , we humans instinctively name to differentiate things and ourselves
