Hi Phil. Super grateful for working this out. It’s a piece that I’ve wanted to accurately learn for years especially the fills on the live version. I can’t thank you enough. Wonderful stuff.

Thank you for taking the time to do this amazing tutorial and putting it to the reach of everyone, not that I have achieved it yet on my acoustic guitar.The sound you’ve achieved is gorgeous,what make is your amp please ?
@philcaffrey2 ай бұрын
Hi Roger. Thanks a million. That has just made my day! Very kind. It's one of my favourite pieces of music ever and I'm so glad that you are getting something from the video. The amp I use for my videos is a Yamaha THR30ii. They are really nice little amps. Perfect for home. (They look great on the sideboard!) The tones they have achieved are really nice and the onboard effects are really nice too. It was a really great addition to the kit bag. I would certainly recommend on to you. 👍

Hi Phil, thank you for granting my wish 😊 Amazing video as always. I'll get onto it straight away! Carine PS: My next biggest request would be the live version of Brothers in Arms Montserrat 1997. Best one in my opinion and no tutorial videos on KZbin!

Nice one Phil, I learned quite a few bits of this ages ago, but there were parts I couldn't figure out, now to try and find time to put it all together ( if my lack of talent will let me). Ps that yamaha sounds sweet, I have one of the originals and have just started using it again, have 9say for home use I don't think there's anything better.

Brilliant - thanks. Yes I love this tune, and you are right, these Yamaha amps punch way above their weight - worth every penny.

Hey thank you for the tutorial, it sounds really nice. I wonder do you have tabs that I can get? I have tabs but theyre just incredibly hard to play and I really want to make this song mine.
@philcaffrey3 күн бұрын
Hi. Thanks for your note. Regarding tabs, i don't do them unfortunately. I don't use them myself. My personal views is that with tabs it is really hard to capture the nuances of MKs playing. I always say that your ears are your most powerful weapon - i always work by ear vs never from tabs and i find this allows me to fully capture the detail.

how did you get that tone? awesome! Im a huge 16 year old knopfler fan!
@philcaffrey8 ай бұрын
Hi Ismail - welcome on board. It's great to hear from a younger MK fan - keep his music going when all us old ones are long gone! Re the tone, I have my amp set on a clean tone, with a little gain for "bite". I have a touch of reverb & delay for body. Pickups are important - this is a 90s US strat with upgraded wiring which adds to the tone. Try and get good pickups of the right type - in this case Fender single coils. The biggest factor of all, and the place where tone really happens in my opinion, is in the fingers, which you get from practice. I would recommend always listening hard to the sound you make and concentrate on sweetening the sound. Good luck and keep in touch.
