It's ridiculous that Jeep would design an off road vehicle with NON replaceable drive shaft u-joints. But their is a solution for around $100 instead of the $850-$900 for a new complete shaft.

I see someone else already asked the question, yet I can't see that you replied. Do you recall the part number for that yoke you used?

Got a video for replacing the front u joint? If im going to take the shaft out id like to rebuild the whole thing and be done with it

No, sorry, I don't have a video for the front. I don't even remember if the front has replaceable joints or what the situation is.

I’m Replacing the universal joints on a 2007 jeep commander… I’ll have to mic the new joints And see if they are the same as yours…The part number you gave was just for the U joint correct? What is the part number for the yoke?

Hello. Yeah the part number I mentioned is the part number for the u-joint. The camera doesn't really pause on it, but you can see the part number for the yoke on the flap of the cardboard box. Just pause the video and you can clearly read it. Hope this helps you.

Ddi you have to have the aluminum shaved a bit on the shaft to use the inside clips? All the joints I have found dont have the clip far enough in .

Hello brian. I just saw your question today. The way the aluminum driveshaft yoke is machined, it is already perfect for the installation. I had no problem was having enough room to install the retaining clips. Good luck.

Do you also have to machine the driveshaft at all or is it just the yoke side that needs to be machined/swapped for the new yoke?
@gregcjdr2 жыл бұрын
No you do not. The aluminum drive shaft yoke is machined at the factory sufficiently. As I said in my reply to the previous question, everything fit together perfectly and I had no problems installing the caps. Best of luck with your project. By the way, don't take a chance having your old iron yoke machined. Definitely buy it pre-machined rom Rockford Driveline along with your u-joint. This way you're covered if there's a vibration problem.

Ok.... so did it work out for you? Or did the aluminum yoke deform while pressing old caps out... it’s $1300 for a new shaft here in Canada 😩

I haven't had a problem with it since. Good luck to you sir.

Hello again. After reading the comments today I realized I didn't answer one of your questions. Yes I was able to get the Caps off the aluminum drive shaft without any issue whatsoever. But then again I never use a press when taking these out. I have always cut the center of the u-joint out with a torch leaving only the four installed caps. Then all it takes is a one second blip of an air hammer with a straight blunt bit and it's done.

Is Rockford still in business??

That's a surprising question. They were in business when I made this video.. I haven't had to order from them since
