Marginally more power, but handled worse and stopped worse. Styling was awful too, but that's subjective.
@Nicksperiments
@Nicksperiments 6 жыл бұрын
Rob McDevitt I’d have to disagree on the stopping ability. Tests by the Michigan State police show the crown Vic does 60-0 in about 142 feet whereas the caprices do it in 125 feet. The Vic weighs less to at 4,100 lbs and the caprice at 4,314 making the braking time of the Vic even more embarrassing. Not to mention the LT1 is built like a tank. It doesn’t make a ton of horsepower but it makes a ton of low-end torque and is built to last

It's funny, newer unibody cars are built like boats, but the older body on frame cars act like boats.

I picked up a 2010 Crown Vic last November. Best car I've ever owned by a large margin. Simple, easy to work on, and reliable. Best $3800 I've ever spent. In regards to the Suburban vs Vic debate, the Suburban name has been around for longer but its not the same platform as when it started. The Crown Vic WAS the same platform from 1979 to 2011. So from a technical standpoint, the Crown Vic platform (known as the panther) has been around FAR longer than any of the GM platforms the Suburban has been using. Its kind of an apples to oranges thing here between the two. And I'm pretty sure the original VW Beetle (rear engine air cooled) has everything beat in terms of being the longest produced platform in the world - production began prior to WWII and ended in the early 2000's in Mexico/Brazil if I remember correctly.

This is the safety difference between older cars and newer ones. The older cars usually survive the crash and can be repaired afterwards the occupants might not be as well off, but in extreme high speed accidents, even Volvos might not survive. Newer cars, the car is totaled and the owner has to buy a new car or use something else for travel, but can usually walk away from the crash.

I had a neighbor years ago, she bought an old Vicky cop car. They didn't strip it good enough, they left all of the wiring harness for everything in it. She was vacuuming it out and cleaning it, she finished and went inside. I had to hook on it and drag it away from her house, said she tugged on a wire in the rear quarter panel. It burned to the ground in her driveway.

That would be a case with the cop maintenance, not OEM. Police depts get in trouble all the time for not stripping equipment properly that they added on. IE exploding tanks from add ons and faulty wiring from cheap auction yard shortcuts.

Drove my Marquis up to a cars and coffee. Was laughed at until I made a smokefest. Then everyone wanted to look at the retro futurist 2000 LS with HPP. Joined a classic car club because she turned 21 this year. Rolled up and asked where I could park. Event organizer knew I was gonna show up. All those old timers scoffed at her. Except for some 4 who knew about it. They had a ball checking out the digital dials, comfy seats and when I lifted the hood to reveal the menacing V8. I got a few surprised looks. The fact is, they will under estimate the normal looking joe. Until it rolls up, strapped with a wrap around bull pusher, hot rod sounding straight pipe (SOHC) driving up like it owns the damn place. Its a underestimated "piggy" car and "taxi cab" yet get behind its gentle purring engine and it will carry you across long miles. That 4 speed will make that Mach 1 proud.

It will never happen, but imo Ford should bring back the Vic. Offer it with the police package set up as well having the better hoses, trans cooler etc. Body on frame full size sedans were really great cars. They could do most anything within reason. Towing, trips, not terrible fuel mileage for a small V8, highly reliable too. The value of these is going to appreciate I believe over the years for clean low mileage models.

It wasn't an "old V-8 even when it was new", that makes no sense. More bullshit anti- Crown Vic propaganda from the dipshit squad. It was new when it was new, which for the Crown Vic was '92, so the engine isn't THAT old. And when people talk shit about the panther platform being a dinosaur, they show their ignorance; Ford continuously updated the Crown Vic (Including it's engine) to compete with most other sedans. The only carry over for the panther was the body-on-frame construction. That said, they could have easily dropped in a faster motor and kept the line going, obviously there was demand. As someone who has owned nearly a dozen CVPI's privately, and owned over 40 cars to date, I can say that the Crown Vic is one of the best cars ever built. Lastly, when that dipshit in the vid proclaims that the Crown Vic isn't tough, it's just easy to repair -- he's full of shit. Listen to people who've owned many of these cars and they'll all say the same thing: The Crown Vic is bulletproof. And if you don't know what bulletproof ACTUALLY means, get out and fucking educate yourself. Hint: It doesn't mean the car can actually repel or deflect bullets. I'm sure neither of these assholes ever owned a fucking CVPI, so they haven't got a fucking clue. Which pretty much makes them perfect representatives of a channel like Jalopnik.

All Ford had to do was update the body panels making it more aerodynamic, add the 5.0 Coyote engine & they would have had another money 💰 making hit for the next 20 years! Ford dropped the ball big time on this car!

Leonard Russo I agree. I'm hoping they are just doing it like Chevy did the Camaro and just discontinue it to bring it back years later better than ever... except I like the 90s Camaro body better.

32 years would suggest that the car was made from 79 - 2011 even though it was made from 1992 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Crown_Victoria#First_generation_.281992.E2.80.931997.29

luedriver renamed in 92 it started life as the LTD and had a number of other names all built on the same panther chassis that was finally discontinued in 2011

I did see that in the wiki, but it still said that the first generation was made in 1992, maybe it was written wrong not to include past models as part of the line

LTD Crown Victoria first... Ford just dropped the "LTD" part of the name but underpinnings were the same including the 114 inch wheel base.

The CV weighs significantly more and has less horsepower. Its like you're surprised that a camero goes faster than a dumptruck.
