Adler plays the older songs like no other, and Sorum plays his stuff like no other. Simply put, they are fit to play what they played on originally. Having one play the other's songs sucks.
@Godoflightning56 жыл бұрын
Even though Matt played on the final product of UYI I & II, excluding Civil War, a majority of the drum tracks were written when Steven was still in the band. There's even vids of GN'R from '86 - '89 of GN'R playing songs live that were on UYI before they were officially recorded and released respectively. Look em' up!

Matt is a very good and technical drummer with great precision. I think people were used to Steve Adler’s garage band feel and groove. I know when I first listened to the two “Illusion” albums I didn’t care for Matt’s style. I started playing drums at my church and I’ve come to realize Sorum is a great drummer. Adler is also great, but just in a different way.

Matt is way more precise. He's like a machine, but not in a bad or synthetic way (Steven even described him like this in an interview). Adler is more of an everyman's drummer. He's great at doing his thing; dirty club rock (which is my favorite kind of music). I actually love hearing a missed beat at live shows, it makes the music feel more real and alive. He's way out of his comfort zone doing arena filling ballads and anthems of the UYI albums though. He'd probably do better than Frank, but that's not saying much. I'd be tickled to death if either one could rejoin the band. They both fill an important piece of it's history.
@damasio20103 жыл бұрын
@@jokerzwild00 there’s way more to it than we’ll ever know, for Matt, Gilby and Stradlin to not being seen together with Axl again..! Only with the classic, may I say legendary lineup on the UYI tour, would you see me paying a ticket to see them!call it childhood nostalgia, I don’t care xD but there’s just certain things that shouldn’t be tampered..and the lineup on guns and roses is pretty much close to the top xD

I love adler but i think that guns wouldnt have survived the 90s without sorum, it was a time were heavy bands took control of everything and sorum gives exactly that, he made gnr songs sound heavier, just compare welcome to the jungle at the ritz vs tokyo 92 or nightrain live argentina, that was huge
@macadoo25307 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Matt came in at a time when they needed a kick ass drummer. Steven was just not cutting it anymore. Matt crushes it on those Illusion 1 & 2 LP's. Made GnR sound majestic as Zeppelin did on 'Presence'. Drum sound is nothing less than massive on Illusion. Even on Adler's best day he could not have brought the band what Matt Sorum did in '91.The perfect drummer for them at that point in time.

I definetly love the groove of steven adler, he made able to dance the hard rocking songs of gnr, he is one of my favorite drummers but im saying that sorum and his heavier sound helped guns to survive the era they were living through, people were hating on 80s bands and wanted everything to be heavy or grunge, thats where the heavy slowed tempo of matt sorum helped the band to not only survive but to keep on top
