So theoretically if I wanted to switch one of my iron armour pieces to gold to prevent getting attacked by Piglins, the helmet would be the best choice, as it does the same protection as the iron helmet and only costs one more gold than boots.

basically if you have diamond armor and someone hits you with strength II + sharpness V netherite sword, it'll protect you less than netherite since the damage being taken (without a critical hit) is 19

a practical takeaway is that chainmail/ turtle helmet is actually strictly better than iron helmet in terms of enchantability/ durability (+ water breathing) respectively, which is one of the most common misconceptions on getting a full set of (iron) armor

I would like armor to work as a fixed resistance number like in BotW, instead of percentages, at a certain point it is very difficult to calculate how much real resistance you have when in some cases the effects give you base resistance or extra resistance. What I mean by botw is that for example, if you had armor that added 20 DEF points, and an enemy hit you with a 31 DMG weapon, the armor would deduct 20 points of damage from that weapon and only deal 11 DMG. If your armor was higher than the attack, it would be fixed at 1 DMG max, so you would still take damage at some point. The problem with this system is that they would need to reprogram all enemy damage, all armor resistances, weapon damage, shield resistance, they would probably need to rework every enchantment, it's better that it stays the way it is now.

Another thing i found is (maybe yall know this) is that you can have full netherite enchanted, wear elytra (so not wearing chestplate) and you'll take around the same damage as diamond no enchanted, seems that having a piece exposed maks you take much more damage even if you have the best armor

Not wearing your chestplate about triples the damage you take because without the chestplate you only get 12 armour points so your max damage reduction goes from 80% to 48% and the damage you take goes from 20% to 52%. Then you lose the protection 4 on your chestplate which makes your enchantment damage reduction go from 64% to 48%

iirc you can actually reach 100% Defense in Minecraft 80% from Full Netherite 16% from Protection 4 20% from Resistance 4(Gapple) Total of 116% Almost Unkillable for 5 minutes with that Won't save you from debuffs like wither tho

well sry to disappoint u but protection enchants and resistance effect does not work like that. they dont stack on top of the protection from armor, but instead filling in the blank percentage of the armor. for example, netherite armor provides 80% of protection, and what full pro 4 does is filling in the 20% blank by 64%, which means the total amount of damage reduction is 92.8%, not over 100%, and keep in mind that each damage point gives 0.8% less armor protection according to armor mechanics resistance effect works the same as protection enchant, its just filling in the blanks, so 100% is not possible

Summary: Video doesn't matter, still use netherite/elytra. Actual summary: Helmet: leather < (gold = chain = iron = turtle) < diamond < netherite Chestplate: leather < (gold = chain) < iron < diamond < netherite Leggings: leather < gold < chain < iron < diamond < netherite Boots: (leather = gold = chain) < iron < diamond < netherite Honestly doesn't matter (unless you are in a minigame and you need to figure out the cheapest combination) in survival progression is still iron then diamond then netherite Video says upgrade netherite helmet cus same prot less price, but honestly I feel you should first max enchant diamond before upgrading. At that point you are using so much diamonds to combine the 1 diamond difference is pointless. Suit yourself tho. ----------------- Stuff important but video doesn't touch upon: Gold helmet if you want piglins to ignore you, turtle helmet is not worth it other than cosmetic, leather boots if you don't want to fall through powdered snow enchant: prot 4 basically still reigns, but blast prot and fire prot is fine. no proj prot unless you are insane. don't have more than 2 enchanted armor with fire prot or 2 blast prot (or proj but again just don't in general) stacking enchants in 1.14.2: be wary of cap specified before, but still cool to have maxed anyway. plus, if you're stacking enchants, you prob are rich enough to do so. gold tools are technically faster but not worth it (except for specific cases, search it up if you think one applies)

BTW armor toughness actually back fires when you get hit by criticals so if there is a toxic guy in the server who is wearing a diamond/netherite armor set and kills everyone all the time just put on a set of iron armor and grab an axe or a trident for extra crit points and you will easily take them down by repeatedly criting them.

forgot the two most important difference between netherite and diamond 1-Knowback resistence 2-fire resistence the netherite armor decresses the knockback effects especially when you come to fight a golem ,you won't fly on the air with the netherite armor ,also if you have fire protection IV you can literally swim in the lava without worrying about your armor's health ,the netherite won't take a single damage from fire ,and won't even burn even as a dropped item , so as long as you have food ,you can literally swim for hours in the lava your health will decress extremly slowly that you have all the time to get hungry and feed yourself (thanks to fire protection IV , if you're lower than 4 don't try to swin)
