I read somewhere that Eminem thought about the concept of this song when he first heard Dido's line "got your picture on my wall, it reminds me that it's not so bad" and he thought about a fan getting through shitty life with just that idol on their wall to support them. He has that in "Sing when you're winning" and other songs as well and the more I know about Eminem, the more I can imagine how that line might speak to him.

This is the reason it squicks me out when someone says they stan a celebrity or whatever. I'm like "uh, ok do you know what that term means and where it came from" .. of course I'm like what 5-6 years younger than Eminem and we bought this cd when it came out. In ways, songs like this are about peoples misunderstanding of empathy. Whats important when trying to relate to others is about the experiencing (perception) of events and how this impacts. This means that people can experience 'same things' such as divorce etc., thiugh this does not mean it impacts the same. So when it comes to musicians, it doesnt matter how similar we may see life events between them and us as fans, as how these events impact cannot be the same. Further point about experiencing - this, as with perception, is also impacted by previous life experiencing and what the person perceives of these and what they hold onto from them. If people understood this, it would help them in preventing them becoming Stans.
