I suspect this little cpu and for its price will become a little legend. It is clear that Intel was directly competing with AMD here in providing up till then unheard of price to performance. Time will tell, but from what I am seeing I am impressed and see no need of an upgrade for average budget gamers/workstations the next few years from this. This chip can punch far beyond its weight in terms of not bottlenecking mid range gpus. Pairing it with discounted tinkering boards (which will happen as news gens are released) gives the ability to bring in some 6cores/12threads later (11600s). True, you will not have access to some features, but in the main this platform (while not as relevant OR PRICEY) as the 12/13th gens, still has some legs.

Yeah........ an i3 will get the job done if you have a RX 6600, but for literally anything other than 1080p gaming you're gonna need more cores and more threads. There is a reason they make the CPU's that have as high performance that they have. It's because technology is growing and we need better hardware to handle more data. If everyone had an i3 12100 most people would be more than fine, but mid-range GPUs and production workers will need many more cores and threads.
@keennm2 жыл бұрын
4 cores are just a pain in 2022 and I can say from personal use. I used an i3-10100 and it really didn't satisfy my needs in eSports games like valorant even with an RX 570, and when i streamed my gameplay to my friends on discord it took a bigger hit. Switched to an i5-11400 and I'm so much happier right now.
@samohraje24332 жыл бұрын
Switched to i5 was a pretty bad idea. Even i3-10100 can do some serious stuffs. All you had to do was overclock it. Simple, it takes maybe 5 minutes to overclock it. From something 4GHz all the way up to 4,7. Even i'm using 11 or 12 years old CPU i7 2600, instead of buying a whole new system, for me it's better to take it simpler and cheaper. I don't want to spend much, so i can buy i7 3770K with good heatsink, that will cost around 90€ than obviously what else can you do with unlocked cpu? Yes, OC. 4,9GHz all cores all threads and i'm good to go. When you don't have needs playing at 4K 120FPS or 1440p 240FPS, 1080p60Fps is enough, for me it is better go with 3770K and some good heat sink instead of buying new system for like 500€

Would you recommend the i3 12100f over the R5 5500? I am slightly leaning toward the 12100f as it seems like it would have a better upgrade path since the 5500 is already technically “out of date” and they are fairly similar in performance.

Couldn't agree more... I see so many people going out to buy $2000 PCs with Core i9s in them, and then they only use them to play games and that's it, and I'm just like "...why??" Not to mention that the 7 and 9 tier cpus from AMD and Intel are advertised as 'the best gaming CPUs', and while yes, that is 'technically true', it's barely any different in games from something like a core i3. Like I absolutely get it if you're a content creator or someone who does intense work, but the intensive work in games comes from graphics, not CPU instructions
@benedictjajo2 жыл бұрын
But if you pair an i3/3600 with a 3070 & above GPUs, you are losing anywhere from 30-40% performance because the cpu is bottlenecking the GPUs. While I agree i9 and the 5800 X3D are completely unnecessary for gaming only, the 3600/i3 also leaves no room for upgrade. The sweet spot for Gaming when it comes to CPU is the mid tiers.

I've been gaming for many years, and I only use Intel i3 (except for the 10th gen)...those who look down on i3 are snobs who either haven't really tried i3s and are quick to judge blindly, or, they just have waaaaay too much money to spend on rigs, looking for XXX FPS, that the human eye could barely make a difference of. Playing side by side with my i3 12100 + rtx 2060s gpu and my cousin's i5 11400 + rtx 3060 gpu, my FPS is like 15-20 less than his, but I'd say, I can't see a freakin' difference! If you are building a new PC in 2023, AMD seems to give you more bang for your buck. With a Ryzen 5 5600x, you are ending up with comparable performance to i5-12400 for a significantly lower price, if we factor in prices for motherboards. Even if we compare the Ryzen 5 5600x to an i3-12100, you only end up paying 30$ more for a significantly stronger CPU. However, as this video shows, the i3 remains a perfectly suitable CPU for gaming that will probably last you a few generations from now. So, if you are already running an i3, it's probably best to stay on that until your next fresh build. By the way, before you ask, the Ryzen 5 5600 and the 5600x are so similar in performance that you could use them interchangably without noticing any real difference. The additional 200 Mhz of the 5600x simply doesn't tranlate into any noticable performance-difference. But, since both are the same price right now, there is no reason to not get the nominally stronger 5600x.

i do NOT recommend getting an I3 or any other low tier CPU, I myself trusted people saying to go for an I3 back in 2017(i3 8100) and i regretted it a lot in the future, ill make some points. 1. the i3 will lock gpu possibilities, so no possibilities to upgrade in the future with newer and better price performance. 2. if the GPU struggles in a game you just have to turn down settings, if the CPU struggles it's a stutter mess and no setting can help you. 3. with a higher tier cpu you will have a better time while using your machine for longer(notice how you see a lot of people with old gen i7s(4770k) around but never old gen i3)
@okidokiliteratureclub7062 жыл бұрын
"In the future"...ofcourse it is. because you shouldn't really pair it with a system that's meant for 8k or something. There's no future proofing, a lie. The competition between tech companies proved that and eventually a high end or least very capable ones will be obsolete a few gens later.

Here's my take. If you don't okay online shooters, get the i3, if you play a mix of both online shooters and story driven games, go for the i5. Trust me, I know from experience. Online shooters are far more CPU intensive than story driven games. An i5 can last you roughly a good 5 years playing even online shooters over 60fps but an i3 will most likely struggle in just 3 years or so
