Sometimes simple is better, I used to use deep conditioners all the time because I thought I needed it because I had curly hair, and a lot of the curly hair community always said deep condition every week to maintain healthy curls. My curly hair is finer in texture and so it got over moisturized from this, at first I didn’t know why my hair was always way to soft. So after giving up deep conditioning all the time (at this point I just condition with a regular conditioner) my hair is so much healthier. Deep conditioner is not for everyone and all curl types.

I did the same thing. So many things are just hyped up habits and products being sold to use for brands to make more money.

I 100% agree that oils, oil-based serums and styling brushes are unnecessary. I also love old t-shirts over microfibre towels. Did you know that microfibre towels are made of a type of plastic? I think its also environmental friendly to use a cotton tee. But I like co-washing cause I workout a lot and I get a lot of tangles so leave-in is a must

Yes, I do remember learning about that years ago. And cowashing is great for in between regular washes when working out.

I threw out the 2 cowash products I had, because they were just collecting dust. I never felt like my hair was clean.

I love the variety of different curly youtubers. I follow everyone from type 1 to type 4 hair. I respectfully disagree with the leave in and oil not being necessary as different hair types do call for different types of products and certain hair types really do need that extra moisture and sealing power. But I love the video talking about such a controversial topic but no one should be hateful or mean just simply because they disagree

Well said. I disagreed with the stance on cowashing. It was what saved my hair last winter when we were having consistent temps below 25°. Weather is a huge determinant for so many ingredients (I’m looking at you glycerin!) that it should be addressed.

Thanks. Of course there are always exceptions. But generally, for most, these will apply. Also, for sealing, I much prefer other products than straight-up oils. Oils are so difficult to wash out, much like traditional silicones, while other sealing products have been formulated to wash out and provide the same benefits.

I use a leave-in conditioner because I have low porosity hair, which doesn't hold on to water very well, making it a bit of tangle when combing through after my shower. I have a tangle teaser and my hair "brushes" out fine if I do it in the shower under running water, or if I do it dry. When I saw people using t-shirts, I figured it was a good use of old college t-shirts that I didn't want to get rid of but didn't wear, either. The brush issue is a real struggle. I bought a Denman knockoff and it was awful. I moved on to a brush that has plastic bristles and boar hair and, while I like it fairly well, I have to be careful because there's a seam on the handle that my hair sometimes gets caught in! When I'm feeling lazy, I just use the Tangle Teaser. Don't tell but I find myself fairly lazy most hair days!

Haha, I am pretty lazy too! I can't be bothered with so much fuss since I know the difference it makes won't last that long.

Should we avoid using an oil to break the cast or avoid as well? I do notice gels can contain oil as well. Do clarifying or chelating shampoos remove oil buildup? Great videos
@HolisticEnchilada
@HolisticEnchilada 2 ай бұрын
You don't need to avoid it but you don't need it. Sealing oils can help lock in moisture and prevent some frizz but they can also build up on some hair types. Clarifying snd chelating shampoos will remove it.

I've been using the Eva NYC Mane Magic primer before I apply styling products. It does contain some oils and silicones. I'm using mainly as a heat protectant and then to scrunch out the crunch after diffusing. Will this build up on my hair and is it safe to use? Any other recommendations would be appreciated. And also, I just ordered the Tangle Teezer. Now I feel like it might have been a waste as well!
@HolisticEnchilada
@HolisticEnchilada 10 ай бұрын
If you have damaged hair, them using a heat protectant is probably a need if you're heat styling. Silicones work best for this. But this product will build up without using a strong clarifying shampoo. Check out the Curlsmith heat and uv protectant spray for a better option. Also, the Tangle teezer is great for detangling, and can be good for styling for some. If you already have it then use it.

For clarifying shampoo, would it work to simply double cleanse with your regular shampoo? Or are there specific ingredients in clarifying shampoos? Also for deep conditioners with protein, which do you recommend?
@HolisticEnchilada
@HolisticEnchilada 7 ай бұрын
No, you need specific cleansers that remove the buildup.
