The misconception of China is something the world going to have to deal with sooner or later. They still believe China is a third world country full of Rice Farmers and Fishermen. They still think China is basically villages. No no no they are building bigger better and faster than any other country in the world.

I am also a Canadian. We moved back to Hong Kong in 1994 and I worked in a French construction company. We trained the Chinese Engineers from the mainland. During the annual vacation we travelled in China. I returned to Canada in 2000. I noticed that there is not much change in our Canadian city and the construction technology is so behind than many south east Asia countries. I retired a few years ago and travelled in China for the last few years. There is so much changes in China. The new buildings and structures are so amazing and their construction technologies in some areas are so advance that the westerners have to learn from.

In a Chinese saying, it says "三人行,必有我师“ (There's always something I can learn from among any random walkers). That's why Chinese are always willing to learn good stuff from others. They travel and learn; they send students to foreign countries to learn; the show good stuff on their TV about others to learn.

Not that they refuse to believe . . . it is just that they close their eyes and refuse to see the true greatness and beauty of China because they want to live in their delusions. If they were to accept reality, then all their hopes would be dashed and there's nothing for them to live anymore since their media has been deceiving them that theirs is a greater country whereas other countries are living in poverty. How to accept the fact that Chinese are living 10 times better than them in terms of cost of living, food, etc?

Agree that China is such a massive country that even I, as a HK citizen, come across "cultural shock" when I travelled back to China. Though we are all Chinese, but the culture is so very different from the North to South, from East to West. Not only the dialects are totally different, the food is different, the culture is different, even the wine they drink are different. Just as an example, in Southern part of China, rice is a major ingredient in our cuisine. We make different style of cakes out of rice flour for Sping festival. We make wine out of rice. But if you travel to the Norther part of China, they don't care for rice as much and uses a lot of wheat and barley instead. So instead of all the cakes, they make dumplings and buns for Spring festival. They drink wine make from wheat instead. In the Eastern part of China, the cuisine tends to be less spicy, and even sweet and sour in Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangsu province. But the inner provinces like Sichuan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, the cuisine gets really hot and spicy. Similarly in South Eastern part of China, we eat a lot of pork, some beef, a lot of seafood and don't care much for mutton. But to the North, Western part of China, mutton becomes one of the major ingredient in their cuisine, and especially in cities where there are more muslims living there, pork is not common.

Taiwan belongs to China. The Republic of China that once fled to the island of Taiwan used to represent China. Now it is the People's Republic of China that represents China. This was caused by the Chinese Civil War in 1949. Don't talk nonsense if you don't know history. At present, mainland China and Taiwan have not ended the civil war. So China is not yet fully unified.
@vornamenachname1069
@vornamenachname1069 3 жыл бұрын
@@GG-hzw Do the current inhabitants of Taiwan even want an unification? That's the question you should ask in the first place. I think the comment above meant that it would be nice if there would be peace betwenn China and Taiwan regardless of whether Taiwan is a part of China or not. It's like Spain and Catalania or the UK and Scotland. Just that with those territories, there were no clear voting processes for leaving/staying. To be fair, the Spanish government did prevent those by force I think. In Scotland, the last voting was sligtly in favor for not leaving. But now, after the Brexit, this might change again, who knows. But with Taiwan, well that's a comment I found under a video after a quick search for Tawanese and China "reunification" and I think they guy who wrote it is Taiwanese himself (or herself).: "Did you feel CCP was trying to erode HK’a civil rights last year when you visited HK? Taiwan has a political party which advocates for CCP taking over Taiwan. It obviously has no support from Taiwanese. But. Its top 2 legislator nominees for 2016 became KMT’s top 2 for 2020. Zone-free legislator candidates don’t need to compete in districts and are based off how popular a political party is. Those seats are meant for minority or special groups, such as those who voice for athletes, women, tech industries, medical services, whatever. KMT is a major party with certain guaranteed seats, and it placed 3 candidates who had openly took part in CCP’s ceremonial events, advocates for China taking over Taiwan, supports HK police’s handling of HK, etc, etc. And you think CCP isn’t meddling with Taiwan? We had to break up the network of that couple outed by that whistleblower in Australia, round up that dude who traffic CCP officials illegally to Taiwan, have U.S. sent cyber security experts from around the world to help Taiwan, have Facebook limit Taiwan’s election ads be paid in Taiwan’s currency only, have numerous raids on gambling dens booking election bets funded by CCP etc, etc, just to have a proper election." For me, China seems to be a great country to live in currently, but if Taiwan don't want to be a part of China than it's their choice and maybe even their problem. Who knows what they'll miss.

Over the past couple days my wife and I have been going through some old VCR tapes we had. Background: my wife was born and raised in Shanghai and moved to the U.S. in 87 where we met, got married and had our first child in 90. She took our daughter back to Shanghai in March 91 and videotaped the trip. Besides all the family parties she also took video of Shanghai including one day from the top of the Shanghai Mansion which has the best overview of the Bund (you needed a 'backdoor' to go to the roof). The video shows the Pu Dong side with nothing but farmland (no Dong Fang Min Zhu or Oriental Tower). No skyscrapers on the Pu Xi side (except the Union Building). I need to make a video of the same view from then til now.

@NouveauHomesPH

Same in the Philippines! It took years to built just a few stations. But with our current administration, they are pushing a build build build regime. Focusing on transport infrastructures, which is really long overdue if you experience the traffic here in the metro. I have tried being stuck in traffic for more than one hour when the condominium where i live is just 1- 2 mins walk away. You can see the condo already but you can't leave the car. Talk about frustration. I detoured and went somewhere else to have dinner before coming home at a later time to avoid the traffic. A sad reality. As the current administration is targeting infrastructure development, starting many projects here in our country is making us all excited and happy that there is hope for a better future. Let us all grow together!

They grow vegetables and livestock for food. With modern transportation distance is no longer a problem.

Hi Gweilo, by tradition, CNY is celebrated for 15 days notwithstanding official holidays. It has to do with some prayers. Probably not many in China follows it but those overseas chinese still continue to do so from Taiwan, HK, Macao, South East Asia to the rest of the world. My 2 cents

For those that don’t know that in china there are literally concentration camps worse than the ones that hitler built during world war 2 ,where innocent civilians are being forced into intensive labor and undergo daily torcher and humiliation only because of their religion,and the government of china has now been responsible for the mass genocide of entire native tribes only because they are muslim. Where are human right activists when it comes to these serious crimes against human rights. Instead of governments worrying about their economic relationships with china they should act immediately, and news outlets like the BBC and other global news organizations should be talking about these matters instead of covering them up.

Great job 👏, thank you sir, fascinating first hand information on china.the West in particular the USA has overwhelmed by violence, drugs, gambling, debt crisis, homelessness ....but in China they have culture and an old respected civilisation and their country is not built on genocide and slavery. I would definitely visit China.

I went to China in 1984, spent about 25 years there. Amazing place. If America wants to end their homeless problem they should ask China to build them housing. China gives away 5 million really nice houses a year to people who don't have one. I could go on, but, like Guilow said, you wouldn't understand.

Village life is not living in poverty. That's traditional living and their hearts are rich. If you want to see poverty go to NYC, LA, Texas, Chicago, etc... Disparity, homelessness, drugs, crime etc... that's poverty.

Instead of calling Chinese government as dictatory, more accurate is Chinese government is an one party government. And the most advantage of an one party government is that, if they are doing things right, it will be 10 times more efficient than a so called democratic government

I am a Chinese. I have to say if you went to China 10years ago, yes, you would not have to worry too much. The locals would treat you well and they were very welcoming. But today since the rising anti-China mood from the Western world because of covid-19 and many Chinese living overseas are treated racially, some smaller places in China are not very friendly to foreigners any more. They are brainwashed by negative news too. They are unlikely to physically attack you but may sort of abuse you. I suggest to have a Chinese friend who can be contacted when you are in trouble.

One thing we, the whole world, should be clear about: With every product from China that we manufacture or buy there, we support this regime that has contaminated us with Covid 19. That China steals from responsibility was to be expected. That she lies to her people too. But that we all let you fool us ... we shouldn't let the liars, murderers and destroyers of our cultures get away with that. They have to bleed for this damage. Who needs a Silk Road when the dirt can be washed into our world even faster!
