You have a first generation board that’s why. Back during the 12th Gen DDR5 ram was running at 5600mhz with 6000mhz being the highest. Achieving 7200mhz on that MSI Unity Z690 is amazing.

Actually they have said this several times when the boards came out but nobody was paying attention and also if you look around most don't use over 6800 unless it's Jufus or Hardware Unboxed and they only use 7200 so they already know they have issues going higher than that . Also most people are just willing to accept limitations at this point and pretty much which is driving this nonsense of hardware barley being able to live up to what's written on the box about it 💯

If I had a dollar for every person who claims and believes their unstable XMP profile is "rock solid" because they passed a cinebench test. I don't even listen to the claims online, because my experience has been terrible across many motherboards and configurations when you dig into the testing more than a few minutes. On 4 dimm, I've seen setups failing to even get JEDEC rated non-xmp configurations with 100% stability.

@@xdi1733 I am using a Z790 Strix-E i set it to 6800 and up the voltage and did a few timings change it was a B**** but got it going smooth at one point i was testing out at 7000MT's but i kept periodically getting bsods so i put it back to 6800Mts seems like the sweet spot my board supposedly does 7800+ total BS i had a 7600 kit went back and a 7200kit go bad.

I tried several Z790 Asus boards (apex, strix E gaming, dark hero) I tried several ram kits (gskill 7600-7800, team t force 7800 etc) Most of them never stable more than 7400-7600mhz. Even every Asus bios worst than previous version. I’m spending 10.000$+ budget pc and wasting how many days to stabilise system and tests. And somehow i got bluescreen or restarting issue. I learned my lesson with Asus Maximus XI Hero and Crosshairs VII Hero. The Crosshair VII would power down if a temperature sensor was read. Then the Maximus XII had issues with the memory controller. By the time I figured out the Crosshair was the issue it was past the return window and then the Maximus XII was the last straw. I pulled it out and went with a MSI Z590 Unify-X and that board hit 4200MHz CL14 with my tforce 16GBx2 kit I got from Microcenter. It’s night and day better. I haven’t used Asus since then.

have a z790 aorus master and their QVL is actually clean, They clearly state 8000 XMP works with only one 8000 dimm not two. I made it work with two after tweaking but was not expecting XMP to work.

My Asus z790 Apex runs my G.Skill DDR5 8000 2x16 XMP profile II out of the box, plug and play never an issue. I also have the Asus z790 Apex Encore sitting in the corner so I cant say if it will yet. A lot of this is IMC luck also. I don't see a 4 dimm MB doing 8000.

im currently on a z790 tomahawk, does 7400c32 with so much ease...albeit bios version can matter also. and it can do pretty tight timings without even needing to have active cooling on the memory, running stable at 71c degrees. this is with 5600c46 green a die sticks, didn't even install heatsinks on them and they run a few degrees cooler than the gskill and teamgroup rgb 7800/8000 kits that I've tested with. the cheapest 4dimm board that will do 7800/8000 right now is the new Asrock Nova. it's a poor man's Hero board. I have 0 complaints with my tomahawk board besides it would be nice to have power/reset buttons. so don't see a point to upgrade for 400-600mt/s (best case scenario) AND above 7600 will probably need some sort of active cooling anyway. the Apex encore is out of the question for me, i can't justify buying it, and I'll probably also have to watercool the ram and start binning cpus and 2x24gb kits to make the best out of it. im just not that hardcore.

i must have been super lucky, i've been binning 5 different 14900k and they all booted and were stable during 2 passes of memtest on my apex encore mobo with xmp tweaked, using the 2x24gb 8000mhz kit from gskill that is on the qvl for the mobo... i picked the cpu with the strongest cores because memory seemed like a non issue, i later bumped the memory to 8200mhz without changing any voltages, i can also do 8400mhz without changing voltages but the memory simply gets too hot if i run them there so i keep them at 8200. am i just that lucky with the IMC so i got 5 14900k in a row that all was taking 8000mhz memory no problem? i wish i could have gotten lucky with the cores... out of 5 14900k the best SP i got was 100, which is decent i guess but i wish i could get a 105+

Maybe theoretically the mobo could support it but the CPU can’t. I don’t even know what the mobo has to do with the speeds you can achieve, maybe trace length and quality. All they really check is probably signal integrity between ram and the pins in the socket at different speeds, not with an actual CPU. So I guess yeah, if 14th gen had an upgraded memory controller the mobo would handle it, so I guess their argument might be, we are 100% confident that if your chip supported 8000mhz this mobo with this ram would work, issue is your CPU. Notice how in the QVL there is no mention of CPU?

I told them that i have a screen cap of their marketing saying that "using qvl list guarantees compatibility" they went dark on that lol - "・The stability and compatibility of memory kits operating beyond the POR standard, such as XMP (Intel), D.O.C.P (AMD), EXPO (AMD), AEMP, and AEMP II, are not guaranteed, as they can be affected by the CPU's memory controller, installed devices, and bus frequencies. " They pointed out this paragraph. I dont remember the other pages but they have it plastered on most mobo makers sites usually in smaller print or hidden in subpages. My z790 hero with a 13900K ran 7800 Corsair just fine on the 1301 bios but when I updated to 1401 it was crashing like crazy. I haven't updated to 1501 yet but I went back to 1301 and set my speed to 7600 and it's been running fine. Not sure why tf ASUS did this but yeah it sucks.

I made a review of a new X gigabyte lineup that advertises 8266, Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite X and Pro and tested ram overcloking, it can do stable 7400-7600 with manual overclock, depends on memory controller. I expect 2x24 could get to 7600-7800 with manual. But with just xmp - I would not go over 7200, just no way.

The front m.2 slot is above the chipset so it gets blasted with heat. I use the rear m.2 slot. Maybe for content creators this is an issue but not for gaming. G skill rates the mobo 7600 ddr5. This is realistic. Hardcore overclocking stresses the vrm. So don’t go crazy. Z790i is half the price of the apex so it’s a better price to performance.

Probably figure people will keep it not to go through the hassle idk, am on 12th would say most people should wait for 15th. XMP has been hit/miss lately, I don't believe the high speeds claims. QVL seems like a higher chance it might work but it still might fail anyway. Would love to see failure rates published, it's a bit complicated but simple really. I'll lower if XMP fails. Wonder how common that is. Have 2 Z690s and a B760M. I honestly wonder how common it is.

I ordered 2x24 GB 8000MHz RAM which Asus has QVL for X670E on agesa 1.0.8.0. Mr postman delivery tomorrow I think. If it won't work good, I will return at least the RAM. Not sure if I should test it on 7800x3d or 7950x. Will be gaming just in 4K and do some productivity. If it doesn't work good Ill rater buy more capacity 6600 MHz RAM from g.skill. I will try it on the Asus x670e gene, so it should be Asus best choice for this an AM5. I know it might not post at 8000MHz, but I have to test it. I am leaning on one side towards 7800x3d since its cheaper and uses almost no watt. But going from 5950x I feel maybe 7950x is a better choice since its got more cores and boost higher. Also I got 20% on the 7950x. In 4K I will GPU limit my 4090 anyways.

Followup: Works with 8000 MHz with zero fuss, X670E Gene, 7950X. No manual voltage settings, but have to set FCLK to 2000 Mhz instead of Auto and select DOCP 1, as well as 8000 Mhz profile (1.35V). QVL 8000 Mhz RAM and latest bios.

My GOAL is to play primarily CoD (warzone and ranked) but want to start playing some multiplayer coop games with friends and single player too. I’m buying a PC. I7 14700k, RTX 4080. I’ve seen some options for monitors that match description above… don’t know if 1440 or 1080…

specifically talking about wz + ranked. with that hardware i7 14th gen and 4080 you should go 1440 over 1080... and a monitor that will do AT LEAST 120hz. 144 is better, and 240+ is absolute overkill. reason is that you WANT frames over 120 (no matter the resolution) for wz - to get the competitive advantage over last gen CONSOLES (at 60 hz), and new gen CONSOLES (120hz), because the overwhelming majority of opponents you face will be on console (85% of all players use console over pc according to steam). you should get a 1440p 144hz monitor, tune the graphic settings in wz to the monitors "sweet spot" which on a 144hz monitor would be 135-140 AVG fps (a few fps lower than the hz of your monitor). avoid using DLSS and, and use fidelityFX cas if you need to to get the frames to that "sweet spot". Assuming you overclock the i7 your bottleneck in that game will be the 4080 so a LIGHT (and i do mean light) overclock of the gpu may be just what you need to push the frames UP into that sweet spot, because i think "out the box" you might be hovering at 115-125 avg fps

My Asus z690 Hero does 6933mt/s after a lot of tweaking which is better than officially supported speed. Not cool if they aren't honest about ram speed anymore 😕 I was planning on upgrading to Dark Hero, but if it isn't a big upgrade, it may not be worth it anymore.. I have a i9 14900K. My DDR5 ram advertised speed is 7800mhz and it’s a 2*16 kit. My Asus ROG Maximus Z790 14gen can do 7200mhz out of the box easily without having to do timings. If I had knowledge of DDR5 overclocking I could at least get close to 8000mhz.

I think this has been going on for a while... I FAFO'd with XMP DDR4-4400 board support and sticks a couple years back and never could get it working. And I was part of the group that settled... I got DDR4-4000 with tight timings and just left it

so you buy an expansive cpu/mobo/ram combo, xmp doesn't work, f*** around for days to get it somewhat stable at a lower frequency than your kit can handle and still leave performance on the table??! Now i get why people pay for your consults, its not easy.

I bought my i7-12700K new, it was drawing 240 watts on Cinebench and instant 95 degrees with my Assassin III. No overclocks, just 1.45 volts, thanks MSI...

Lowered that sh*t to 1.2 volts, now it runs cool max 72 degrees.

Anything 7200 or more is bullshit. 7000 is stable for me tho from alder lake all the way to raptor lake

I am genuinely curious about why this guy has such negative experiences with amd. I have found all my am4 builds to be awesome. I am about to do a 7800x3d build but he has me a little concerned. Have i just become used to slower performance in windows? I have a 3770k that i still use for a minecraft server for my kids and it feels very snappy to me still. I am really curious what is going on. I almost want to do a 7800x3d and 13700k build side by side to see whats up.

This guy is 1% of the 1% of PC enthusiasts, hence the name of the channel. He is pushing the systems he tests to their utmost limit and his judgments are probably right most of the time, but should be taken with a grain of salt. I have an AMD system (7950x) and I love it. I am a software developer and I love that It's snappy and fast for what I do. I also play games with my kid once in a while. My system is absolutely OK and perfect for my needs so I am satisfied with my purchase. But this guy is still right, if we understand that he is referring to overclocking and pushing the limits and getting the best bang for the buck for this same purpose. But most people are not after that and are still able to enjoy their systems, be they AMD or Intel. I still find it fun to watch him though, I just wish he wouldn't curse that much.

@nymbusDeveloper86 good to hear. I need to run lots of VMs as I program lots of different industrial equipment, and the 5900x was amazing for me. I almost brought that into a couple of plants when their server clusters were maxed out on threads and not fast enough for what we were doing. I am going to pickup either the 7800x3d or 7900x to play around with a bit.
