I'm laughing about the LR comments. In 76 I served an apprenticeship in a rural village garage. We had so much work as a result of how poor these things were. I learnt to weld replacing rotted out rear crossmembers on 5 year old series 2a's. As my life progressed in the motor trade I had so many customers who were brand faithful to LR who had horrendous experiences. Fractured diff casings on Discoveries, huge MOT repairs on Range Rovers then the new models all with horror stories with poor engineering but great styling! I spent a lot of time in Kenya where 4wd vehicles have to work. They're all Toyota's. Nuff said ha ha!

Excellent video James - you put so much effort into preparing your cars, they are a total credit and respect to you! As for the Land Rover with the new engine, their only option is to keep it and run it into the ground, they will never be able to “recover” any of the expenses by trading it in.

I bought a TopDon 1200 well over a year ago after seeing you use it. I bought the small one as my bike had a random power drain and never had to charge it for almost a year. One morningbmy mate found he'd left the interior of his 6.5 ltr Cummins diesel Dodge Ram and the little TopDon 1200 got it going first time! Awesome bits of kit.

No car engine is without risk of fault but I don't understand why modern engineers tuck service parts deep in the engine or why they forget simple things like rubber belts don't like oil. In theory we should be getting better and better at design and engineering, and in most cases we are, yet car makers buck this trend. Is it profiteering or are they really just challenged?

Your right and if you think back to cars of 15+ years ago you expected at least 150K miles from an engine and sometimes much more. How can it be "green" to produce self destructing cars?

Excellent video, James. You and CarUK show how much effort you put into preparing your cars, which is a total credit to you. With the Land Rover wouldn't it be best for them to keep it as they won't get the money back, they put in with the new engine. Have a great week James.

It's frankly quite staggering that they've never been able to produce a product that's reliable ever since the brand became so desirable from the launch of the original Disco all those years ago. If it was a Japanese brand, they'd have engineered solutions within months. I'm probably one of millions who loves the way they look, generally, but wouldn't touch one with a bargepole. Engines, suspensions, electronics, depreciation.... All as grim as it gets, for a massive premium 🤪🤨🤷♂️🤦♂️

Had a xe jag in and you could hear the chain at 90k,cheap tax and 60 mpg tho, my son ran it for a year, it was getting klankey tho at the end, sold it on e Bay as needing a chain, a guy with a little garage bought it.

I’ve had a Disco Sport since new - 2017 at 70k - no significant issues and it’s been a great car - the key is to service them annually at 8k miles. The stipulated 2year 21k service is just too much for a hard working diesel that suffers from diesel dilution of the engine oil. I do appreciate people have had failures and I always listen for a potential rattle at start up.

You could spend £20k on 2 lr engines but the car is expected to have a working engine regardless so expecting to claw a huge chunk of money back is ludicrous off a new buyer . Insurance companies won’t pay out 10 grand more because it’s got a new dealer fitted donky and it gets stuffed 2 weeks later Ludicrous it’s worth what it’s worth and such a huge amount is never coming back , I’d of said a grand over book as a gooodwill gesture as long as it’s got a invoice for £10k

Ingenium, JLR taking short term profit while destroying used car values and the company in the long term. So many problems, timing chains, turbos, EGR/oil dilution. A friend was quoted £17k by JLR for a new engine, eventually had it repaired by a specialist for £8k. JLR very reluctant to take responsibility and contribute to the cost.

Had several Jags with the Ingenium and they have been fine. It seems that Land Rover have the lion’s share of the problems. Talking to an ex service manager (before the LBGTSW£ crowd at Jaguar made him redundant) reckoned it was down to the stupidly long oil change intervals. The 6 cylinder Ingenium is excellent
@neilbucknell9564Күн бұрын
As the owner of a 63k mile Disco Sport, with no problems I would mention that there's an oil warning message advising an oil change that comes on about every 10k miles that I'd guess many ignore. It would be better if this was a recommended oil change interval. BTW - the car's a peach!
