This is actually a brilliant documentary. Deeply compassionate work. I had to think about it for 2 days. Brian Zegar is authentic, wise and knowledgeable. He tells it EXACTLY how it is. Zsolt asks some very potent questions and we can see that Zeger is deeply challenged at times, but this never descends into a dispute. The tone is lofty and well-meaning. This kind of proves that people can have tough conversations without the need for anyone becoming combative or offended. I leant a lot from this. 5 stars. I hope it gets a million views. Who is this pianist?

I once saw Brian in a concert with the soprano Deborah Voigt. They were both superb, and it seemed like a very collaborative effort. Very in-tune with each other.

These are such great interviews for learning about craft. I love when you speak to people who work outside or alongside performance. Could I suggest in new videos that you interview opera directors?

On nerves: “It depends on where there insecurities come from....usually it is a lack of preparation.“ Yes. This. It seems so obvious, but it is worth repeating endlessly. I have never been truly nervous rehearsing/performing a piece that I knew I worked as hard as I possibly could on- even if the end result was not perfection. There is a lot of peace in that.

One more point to add re Wagner singers and Baroque music. In the late 1970s, Gwyneth Jones and Jon Vickers sang in a Paris production of Monteverdi’s Coronation of Poppea. Those are hardly the voices you’d associate with that music; they are hardly the last word in Baroque scholarship, but it’s amazing how they handled the music!

Hi, is there any chance you have ever reached out to Arcadi Volodos about filming an episode?
