I got the Sega master system in 1988 for my birthday. I do remember the pause button. It was not a problem for me at all. The Sega master system also had cards and cartridges for those of you who don't know about it which you could play games on both. There is also a mase game built into the system. Turn it on without a game cartridge or a card and you will be able to play the game.

The controller cables were so short back then and TV screens were also so small. For these reasons kids used to play games kneeled down next to the consoles anyway. Coach gaming is actually relatively newish term. That having said, it's still a weird thing to not include a pause button even back then. It's a shame too, as the Master System had a genuinely good controller otherwise.

Idk why my comment disappeared.. I googled each of their U.S. sales total. Sms is between 1.5 and 2 million. 7800 is over 3 million "3.77 million" No one knew what Sega was at this time. Atari was the familiar machine, and 7800 was discounted compared to 5200. So it makes sense.
@lukejaconetti11 ай бұрын
@@Lightblue2222 I did the same. Found sources indicating that the "3.7 million" number from Atari includes both hardware and games. Whereas the number of systems sold was more in line with around 1.1 million. Regardless, the relative sales one way or another had nothing to do with this design of the Pause button. By 1989 the Genesis/Mega Drive would have a Start button which functioned as the Pause button. Amusingly, the Power Base Converter which allowed SMS games to be played through the Genesis/MD had to include a Pause button!

Not really the nes control was pretty g.a.y. with its 4 direction cross. The Sega control had full 8 directional access. You could even attach a joystick to it’s center so f.u.c.k off both of you.
@DeskoDev Жыл бұрын
@@llDavidGatoll You can't attach a joystick to most later models of the pad, including the one in the video - they got rid of the hole for it. And frankly imo, the dpad on those models just doesn't feel that great from my experience. It feels very mushy, and hitting the directional inputs by accident is all too common. At least it doesn't feel as stiff as the NES dpads I've tried, though. I've heard the earlier models do feel better, but they're hard to come by where I live (US) and fetch a pretty penny. Not worth it when I can just hook up a Mega Drive pad instead.
