I can't quite manage to put my finger on the magic ingredient in these videos but somehow in less than 10 minutes Petrolicious seems to always capture and convey exactly what it is that makes these cars so special. Maybe it's the unique way that their format takes the car owner and transforms them into a host of sorts for the duration of the video. Without fail I always reach the end of these videos with a great deal of respect for these cars, even if I didn't think much of them before hand. Hard to believe the progress that's been made when you look back at KZbin videos from just 5 years ago and then compare it to the spectacular content being pushed out by channels such as this one. Keep it up Petrolicious! Nicely done.

Agree as far as 911's go. A 964/933 air-cooled 911 are THE 911's to own if you can afford one (or two). The TRUE "pursuist's 911" not the recent "911 R". As far as naturally aspirated engines go I think the first gen Audi R8 is a modern classic. Not sure if that was air-cool too or liquid-cooled. But as far as V8's go...tough to beat. Loved the Ferrari 458 and the F12 TDF engines/sounds. :)

The Growler was named by my good friend and fellow POC racer who shall for her sake remain nameless. Never the less, she named it after her own "Ujeeba" which has over time become quite good at warding off all the unwanted attention she gets at the race track... In some parts of the United States, a 'growler' means a type of giant beer/alcohol container. In other parts of the United States, it means a giant, unpleasant, difficult to pass poop you've just laid. In the UK, it means a big old hairy lady gash. In any case, it's not a great name for a car.

Sir, I believe you are very correct about racing/tracking your car. I have a (470 hp) 944 Turbo, a Twin Turbo RSR 964 (being built by Patrick Motorsports as I write this), and finally, a 2002 Trans AM GT1 Mustang. I purchased the Mustang specifically for racing and track events as this is what it was designed for. Although Porsche prides itself on building a street car one can drive to/on the track, it is necessarily a beautiful thing that deserves to be coddled and flogged--in that order. I would argue that flogging first and coddling/maintenance second falls to machines that meet the spec.

To Petrolicious: from 2007 to early 2010 i was privileged to live in southern California, being a motorcycle enthusiast i couldn't be on a better place in the world to enjoy the wonderful twisty roads socal has to offer, please don't miss understand my message but as there is a first time to everything, this is the very first Petrolicious video that i completely dislike to be honest it had me cringing the entire time, in my 3 years riding Azusa, GRR and the mighty GMR religiously, i have lost count of how many people i had met at the Mobil station who never reached the top of GMR or its bottom because of people like Alexander Bermudez making that mountain a race track, yes of course there is plenty of reckless unskilled riders (bike and bicycles) as well BUT in my PERSONAL experience i had encounter most of my near miss life threatening situations up there involving a 4 wheel vehicle driven by someone who thinks its good enough and its ok to push someone who talks and drives like Alexander did. Somehow i can't find the romance that this channel has for so long reflected in this particular video, if you are reading this Alexander, it is a matter of time until you clip that apex and in the other side of the corner there's someone on two wheels rather a motorcycle or a bicycle right in front of you only a matter of time when for just one time you run wide in the corner exit and there's someone right there, your portraiture of driving in this video is a fatality waiting to happen. sorry guys but thumbs down for this one.

I quit driving because of people doing exactly what you're talkin about crossing the yellow , clipping the Apex. somebody gets hurt or killed up there a lot. it's a very dangerous road one of the most dangerous roads in the eastern part of the country. you can't cross that line, when you do , your telling someone else to do it it's okay to do it. it ain't okay!!!

I believe it was ball pinion? I have never felt steering like it in any car since. the car was very fun to drive. not the fastest, but it translated the feel of the road to my hands, in a positive way. I loved that car.your video reminded me of that car. how the air cooled engine changed you. I now want to find a older Porsche and rebuild it. I am a musician, and have developed a very deep sense of appreciation for engine / exhaust notes. That vid featured some very, very memorable audio. There were clips from inside the car, from outside but ON the car, from the side of the road (coming and going), from up close...At 2:17 is my favorite very short clip, even with Mr Bermudez speaking, from the top of the bluff with the car down and away. The only ways for the sound of the car to reach the microphone is either by going out the exhaust (with the pitch flatter because of the Doppler effect) hitting one of the rocks lining the road once or twice, which isn't the best surface to reflect sound with all those plants muffling the higher frequencies, the zinging growl, metal on metal, but once in a while a flat rock surface a little behind bounces the whole thing. The other way is "through" the car, with the pitch sharper than it really is -- again, Doppler. The result is a chaotic mixture of the car sound, phased out, with sharper and flatter notes of the same exhaust at the same time, then only one of the two depending on the immediate environment where the car is traveling at that precise instant... most people listening would swear they can hear two cars... no. That sound, that mesmerizing duet, with the sharper revs almost always constant and with the ghostly image of itself seemingly at different revs, a little late, a little louder then silent, echoing late, than quieting down suddenly as the car passes in front of an open cliff... that sound is the sound of speed, harvested by a microphone positioned at the right place, at the right time. Thank you for the quality soundtracking.

So if a photographer say "hey, I take some pictures of your car and put 2 or 3k miles on it easily" I'll say NO thank you, nobody drives my car other than me. And a question, what is the function of the yellow stripe on the wheel?

The yellow stripe is to show if your wheel is straight when you are racing or moving the wheel quickly.

The yellow stripe can serve a number of purposes. On removable wheels it let's you know immediately that it is attached in the proper position. Also, racing suspension setups don't always allow the front wheels to self center when you let the steering wheel do its own thing. Having the yellow line as a reference point helps the driver know out of the corner of his eye exactly where the wheels are pointed when conditions might not let the car communicate enough steering feedback. One example of this is that often times in higher powered cars when they break loose the drivers can be seen violently sawing the wheel back and forth to maintain their optimum driving line while they wrestle the back end into compliance. As an added bonus it really helps you see what's going on with the steering wheel when watching video shot from inside the car.

Soknik01 Thank you for the info, never thought was that important on a race car.
