He got doubled up after 3rd baseman fooled him on a fake throw from the catcher. He knew he was going be out at 2nd after centerfielder caught the ball and threw to second base so he didntt bother touching 3rd base again.

That's an appealable play. The runner from second passed third towards home, then decided to return to second. But he went directly to second, skipping stepping on third base. He should have done the reverse way entirely without skipping any base. If the defense appeals, he will be surely out. If not, play on.
