Blessings Dr Becky from Chicago. I started a kego diet in 2023. My glucose levels fell so that my primary lowered my Metformin. She also changed my blood pressure medication. I'm eating one or two meals a day. The only issue is, I'm not losing any weight. Walking, is my exercise. I'm a 70 year old female.

I have had similar results. Much Improved blood sugar but all year I've only lost 5 lbs.

Hello Chicago….Same for me however I am keeping on the course, I do know I’m feeling better, Hubby and I walk 3-4 times per week approximately 4000 steps, our choices are healthy,blood pressure & sugars are good just remember it’s a marathon not a sprint…..Old age isn’t for sissies,said Art Linkletter Blessings from Pennsylvania 🙏🙏🙏🎚🎚🎚🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Are you doing high fat like a typical keto diet? If so, you might want to lower your fat intake and up your protein (your body won’t burn its own fat stores properly if you keep feeding it high fat - this is especially true for women). Once you’re at your goal body composition, you can add more fat. Also, if you shift your eating window to end earlier in the day (say by 3 pm), you’ll burn more than if you start eating later and finish later.

I’ve had a similar experience. But…in addition to improved blood sugar my cholesterol also lowered. My arthritis joint pain is all but gone. I’m hoping over time my weight starts to drop too.

After years of trying to cut out sugar with will power, it finally came to cutting them all out. It still took over a year to get rid of cravings, but getting to that point, the feeling of being free of sugar, and being extremely healthy, is far better than any 'balance', or 'moderation' ever was. 3 years now, no sugar at all, and don't crave it, don't want it, don't look for it any more.

Such a clear and concise video Dr. Becky! I am down almost 95 lbs in two years because I had the symptoms you describe and took the actions you recommend! The symptoms are gone and my sugar is under control and my health is back. I just was shopping at the grocery store today and it is simply Carb city there. People need this type of messaging to understand what they are up against. I came home from the store and ate a packet of Salmon and had fresh watermelon and some delicious Yuca root chips that I found at the store. It more than made up for the fresh apple fritter that I had been tempted to buy as I walked by the display at the bakery!

Hi Dr Becky. I just came across your channel today and I love the content. I came across this video and I never thought I might have insulin resistance. I have always been unfit, always indoors and barely do much physical things. I have started to eat healthier, avoiding carbs as much as I can as my diet consisted of mostly carbs and doing some exercise. I have those dark patches under my arms, dark spots on the side of my body, dark streaks running down the sides of both my eyes and I have noticed tiny skin tags growing on my eye lid, and I have a lot of belly fat or around that area. I think it's safe to say I am insulin resistant. I am really happy to have stumbled upon your channel because it will be very helpful on my journey to losing weight and becoming healthier. Thanks.

Thank you Dr. Becky - I have been Type 2 diabetic since they found it very early in my 1st pregnancy 24 years ago. For years, I neglected myself and now suffer from severe neuropathy in my feet. After watching many of your videos and purchasing your book on Intermittent Fasting, something finally clicked in my brain (sadly at the age of 53) and I started intermittent fasting on March 6th of this year. I am down 26 lbs as of today and down 4 dress sizes. My AIC went from an all time high of 9.4 in December to 6.3 in April which was the lowest it's ever been. I have to have surgery on my foot in September and I am getting labs done next week so I'm hoping for great results because my doctor is already talking about lowering or deleting some of my medications. I am only eating from 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and trying to stick to a low carb diet, walking 2 miles a day when I can.

How am I just now discovering your channel? You describe all of this stuff better than anyone else. I have been indulging in these topics for years. I have heard umpteen other people explain all of the stuff you cover on your channel. NOBODY explains it more clearly than you do.

@beckygillaspy I once lost 100 pounds. I got there with a lifestyle consisting of two meals a day, moderate protein, very low carb, high fiber, and enough fat to feel satiated. I also drank a lot of water, exercised every day, got a lot of sleep, and relied quite a bit on coffee with cream. Over time, that strategy worked. I had spent an entire decade of my life weighing 300+ pounds before I scratched and clawed my way down to 230 lbs using this strategy. I got to a point where people said, "You can stop losing weight now." So I wholeheartedly believe in the science you describe in your videos. My problem was that a series of events - which started with an injury at the gym - led to me going back to my old ways and getting a bit lost again. I put back on a significant amount of weight, despite rarely ever eating junk food. It was mostly due to not exercising consistently, but I think I also simply forgot what was working for me before the injury. So as I watch your videos, I think to myself, "Yes, that's basically what I was doing 4 years ago!" I had two meals a day of fat, protein and fiber. I suppose the foods were digesting slowly, preventing insulin spikes. Plus, I kept my protein at a moderate amount just to be on the safe side. I tried so many other strategies when I got lost over the last few years, but I sincerely believe your videos are helping me to rediscover what worked so well for me at one time.

In England is seems people have less sugary Fizzy drinks and more frappuccinos, milky sweetened coffees, Mocha and hot chocolate or iced frappuccinos. Especially from Costa and Starbucks. Many don't realise these are sugary high calorie drinks essential the same as indulgent desserts!

@ChrisPBacon-vf2dz research shows that many have a diet coke (or another sugar free brand) and then see this as an excuse to eat unhealthy food because they believe the diet soft drink off sets the calories of the junk food. But usually they over-compensate. E.g. omit a sugary Coke and have a large Fries and Big Mac from McDonalds or a starter and dessert with their dinner etc.

@@littlevoice_11 I've no idea which artificial sweetener is used in these drinks nowadays but I question whether it's working. Some have recently been linked to cancer but there may be some kind of interference with the hormones that tell us we're full and to stop eating.

@ChrisPBacon-vf2dz I think a lot of the issue is the public's understanding of nutrition and seeing diet drinks as an excuse to then eat excessively, high calorie UPF. Then combined with 24-7 cheap processed food available, marketing on every platform designed to make you crave the food and new formulations/recipes to make it even more highly palatable and addictive.

Insulin is an anabolic hormone and has many jobs. Moderating the catabolic action of glucagon in the liver. When the liver is insulin resustant or a type 1 diabetic, it makes way too much glucose under action of glucagon. Storing fat. Oh yeah, it drives glucose out of the blood into the tissues whether they need it or not.

Dr. Becky I have recently discovered your webpage. I’m grateful the information you share. A question I have is in regards to allulose. I found a keto dessert that calls for “allulose sweetner”. After looking for it on the web, I’m still not sure if it is a good replacement for sugar. Does it cause hunger & cravings? Have there been long term clinical trials to establish future health problems? ❤

Any advice for someone who really dislikes salad and uncooked veggies but wants to go low carb? I could eat cooked veggies and protein and fat all day but salads... i have a problem. But I have insulin resistance and have had gestational diabetes twice. Pregnant again and really wanting to kick this in the butt. I cannot do salads though, maybe once or twice a week but not every day.

There are some artificial sweeteners that will spike insulin. I lost a lot of weight by switching to a brand called Zevia. However, stevia is in the same plant family as ragweed; so if you have an allergy to it you might want to go with monk fruit instead.

I have a question I had gastric bypass in 2009 and I question if I am not able to absorb well. I have been doing Keto/carnivore since February and have lost 32 lbs. so far. My question is I have been having terrible leg cramps off and on at night and sometimes even in the day. I am taking Redmonds Relyte daily and Keto chow magnesium daily and sometimes try to remember to also take some daily minerals too. But I cannot get rid of the leg cramps. I am at my wits end. Do you know of anything else I can try. I am not sure who to ask. I did talk to my doctor and she said maybe I shouldn't do Keto, but it is working so I don't think that an answer. Thanks for any help. Reply

The actress Mary Tyler Moore was hugely insulin resistant. I don't ever remember her having visceral fat anywhere on her body. 🤔

Hello Dr Becky, little history I'm from South Africa Johannesburg. I need help. I've been on banting and now keto but cannot get my body to go in ketosis. I'm in Perimenopause, so my estrogen levels are very high and Progesterone very low. 05. I'm Prediabetic but I think I'm more already a diabetic. I fast 6pm at night till 11am in morning. My wake up blood sugar is around 8.2mmol/l then by 11am before meal 6.8-6.7mmol/l. So dawn phenomenon problem. What can I do as I want to know what test to do to find out if I'm insulin resistant. Dr put me for 3 months on Diaglucide which is a insulin medication. Please help I want to go into keto.
