The filing might be simpler, but what happened to me and my spouse was that the old Married Filing Jointly was not withholding enough. I am not sure that the payroll systems at our separate jobs was setup correctly. With help from our accountant we had to change to Married Filing Separate, but even then there were still pay periods where zero dollars were withheld from my wifes pay.
