Great tipps and approach towards kick making in serum. I appreciate how this channel and its community grows :) An idea for a future video: I would love to see how you approach the sounddesign of chords depending on the type of lead you are using and how to get them super wide & spacious.

hmm, thats an interesting idea. so more focussed on the chord part of a leadsound?

@@nebirimusic142 Haha, alright, sorry in advance for my way too lenghty reply, but I consider describing my thought process in detail is the right approach on this one. Using chords as leads or at least as an integral part of the leadsound (à la headhunterz) is certainly one way to utilize stacked notes (in this case the chords play the exact rhythm of the lead melody). The technique that comes to my mind in this case is the one you showed in your video ‚Approaching Hardstyle Leads‘. In that video from the timemarks 40:30 to 52:20 you talk about adding simple supersaws with Serum using 16 voices for each oscillator with the detune knob moved to around 12 o’clock for both Osc A and Osc B. This combination of voices and detune produces a chorus like stereo sound which adds width to your stacked main melody consisting of single note leads+chord leads. A few days ago I was starting to mix a new track of mine consisting of a single note melody line played by 5 stacked synths and simple chords changing every bar underneath that. To me, this makes them separate instruments groups (as the chords are not following the rhythmic melody pattern), so I tread them separately in a Leads Group and a Chords Group. For the chords I used a supersaw exept that I did them in sylenth 1 using the exact same tried and true methode you describe in Serum (exept I used 4 oscillators, as this is the number of osc that Sylenth provides). I was then checking my mix against ‚High Power‘ by D-Sturb. When he introduces the melody at the 02:00 mark, the whole song and especially the chords underneath the leads sound considerably more spacious then my mix. On headphones the difference is quite noticeable when doing an A B comparison. In addition the song still has quite good mono compatibility, the chords may become quieter in mono, but they are still present. You could look up the song on youtube, but the compression algorithm really altered the quality of the audio, so much so that I don’t think it is a good representation. If you want I can send you the lossless FLAC file of the D-Sturb track via mail or provide you with a dropbox link so you can check it yourself. My conclusion is that he may used some additional processing on his supersaws to get them extra wide. Something along the lines of Chorus Vsts, Infected Mushrooms Wider, Soundtoys Microshift, mid/side eqing, a short reverb with a short predelay or a short stereo delay, perhaps designing two slightly different chord supersaws and panning them left and right. What is your take on this and which method would you use (if you would do additional processing at all)?

@@BlackBlast first of all, dang thats a long comment😂 love the detail tho! I tbh dont really use extra processing (yet) as I still am investigating and learning for myself how to achieve a wider sound, with just the tools that i do have. That said, i'll keep this idea for a video in mine, but i'll make it when i have some concrete information which will help people😄

You kinda forgot the reverb trick? I guess. It’s just a long recording of the punch with an awful amount of reverb. Bounce that. And then use automation for volume?
