Can you invest in any smeargle or does it gotta be lock-on/ flying press ? for some reason @ Lock-On doesn't pull up any pokes for me. Even though i have atleast 6 or 7 with lock on.

one thing I’ll say is you don’t need to max Maril and Bronzor for example, last season I played with a lv 45 Marill and won 19 games in a row from how broken it was, let alone lv 50

Was really looking forward to little catch cup, I’ve got a rank #11 bronzor, rank #33 maril, rank #67 annihilape, rank #74 mandibuzz and a few others, but it’s hard to justify spending like 800k stardust on a week long cup.. especially when they basically will be useless after the cup

Ive got a pretty stacked line up for the LCC this rotation. I gave up on smeargle bc all my IV spreads were garbo. Rank 1s for marill, shuckle, and bronzor. Good IVs on vullaby, licki, snorunt, scrafty, and annihilape.

I didn’t really prepare for the little catch cup, but I had a Wiggly, a Sableye and a confusion Bronzor that I started using, and I’ve won probably 80% of games!

I’ve been playing little cup in the 1800elo range and haven’t seen 1 smeargle or shuckle nor XLmons just straight up fun lineups such triple first evolution starter teams so I’ve been having fun today, hope that doesn’t change now I’ve said that.

Went fron 1700 to 2200 with fuecoco, barboach and annihilape. Beat bronzor, smeargle, shuckle several times. Felt great😂

Do you think a Smeargle with Frenzy Plant would work in this meta because of the huge amount of Marills that are in teams? Also, you get the Smeargle with Lock-On and Flying Press by having a buddy with Lock-on and a move that Smeargle cannot learn, like Return or Frustration and a lot of luck and patience. I am using a Porygon that I purified. I have a ton of Smeargles, just none with Flying Press yet.

I definitely like the concept of catch cups, but i understand for the more serious players trying to grind out the last few weeks it can be frustrating. Especially a little cup. I wish it was possible to have it earlier in the season but that obviously defeats the purpose

If anyone is interested and checking the comments for the information.. to get smergal with lock-on and flying press, you want to make your buddy a pokemon like Shadow registeel (lock-on as it’s fast move) and the charge move frustration* A purified one will work as well as long as it has Return* as its charge move. This does not gaurentee you will get flying press on the first encounter bc it just pulls a random move smeargle can learn, one of them being flying press.

I have a lock on/Flying press Smeargle. You need to snapshot a shadow pokemon with lock on (regis, and porygon 2 are ideal) and frustration. Smeargle can't copy frustration so you need to snapshot every day until you catch a Smeargle with flying press.

Shadow regis work the same way. I use a registeel. Made 70 smeargles this season, no flying press :(

Having played the game just under a year and currently at 2750 range, I've quickly learnt that I simply cannot compete at this level as I do not have the candy or dust to level up the few useful Pokemon in catch Cup

Porygon2 with Lock on and Frustration. Frustration randomized the move you get. Keep re rolling until you get it.

I got a hundo shuckle this season so I decided to make this my little cup season, but I still have very little hope. I wish I knew the smeargle trick, I was just gonna use elite tms. My shuckle is only at 400 now too and I don't wanna use most of my rare xl candies on it if I can help it. It's so insane that even with a hundo shuckle I'm still not sure if I can make this work. Isn't this supposed to be the easiest cup in theory?

It will work at 400 lmao. Someone came into 1500 catch up by mistake with their 497 shuckle and my 1497 annihilape took forever to counter it down still 😂

Marill is terribad why are we talking about it? It's ranked so high only because it beats both Shuckle and Smeargle. I mean that's a feat but when pitched against a normal pokemon it crumbles apart as it has no damage and a mediocre typing.

It can’t learn frustration so you need a shadow regi with lock on/frustration. The charge move will be random. It’s very difficult to get

Man i have been grinding all season with shadow regirock and frustration only for a random LATAM (latin american) event to replace smeargle with a "chance" to encounter Maractus instead. A "CHANCE"!!!!! I managed to get a Smeargle with Lock-On/Sacred Sword at least but with trash IVs.

The smeargle needs you to have a shadow or purified regi. (They all have lock-on as a fast attack) The buddy regi needs to be shadow or purified because Smeargle can't learn frustration or return, so the game lets the smeargle roll for a random legacy move.

Meta is much smaller than open leagues, not sure how you don’t get screwed all the time. Personally little cups have always been me running two bronzor counters and still losing to bronzor.

I hope the Catch Cup is discontinued. It is the most unnecessary cup ever. Only Nintantic would halve the stardust costs for attacks this week - it would still be interesting. I'm basically taking a break this week. I would rather have all normal leagues open again for the last two weeks.

I disagree. Smeargle has been available for so long, and I never saw one in small catch cup in last season. Last time, small cup was SO much fun and it got me my first Ace rank, with the shittiest pokemon imaginable. I consider it a really fun league, and I'll be playing the shit out of it. I do get your points, but no one in their right mind is spending all their XLs on a smeargle for a catch cup, and almost no one in the entire planet has a smeargle with that moveset that they have caught in the last 2 weeks. Shuckle? Yeah probably, but that brings me back to the ridiculous XL splurge needed for just a small catch cup. No one is gonna do it. What we're gonna see a lot of, though, is annihilape, bronzor and eevee. Guaranteed. And each of those is a counter for the other, so it's gonna be fun for sure

I dont get how people manage a Smeargle with Lock-On and Flying Press. The only Pokémon with Flying Press are Hawlucha and Lucha Libre Pikachu, neither of which have Lock-On as a fast attack. So how could you get Smeargle to photobomb and absorb the first two attacks from your buddy when you can’t actually have a buddy with those two moves at the same time??? No idea.

You need a pokemon with Lock On that is either shadow or purified. Smeargle can’t learn those two moves (frustration, return) so it’ll get a random charge move instead

@@slayvvald5732 ah yes my brain just figured it out as you posted this. So you basically get a 1/150 shot at getting flying press provided you get a Smeargle photobomb while you have a shadow Regi as your buddy. Jiminy what a crazy way to get one. And then 99% of Smeargle IVs are absolute garbage…

Another thing about smeargle - it can't learn Double Kick in PoGo, so you can get some impossible random movesets with something like a shadow nidoking or girafarig with double kick & frustration or return.

@@rocknorris9508 It does get easier, though. Once you have your first Smeargle with the right moves, then every day you photobomb that smeargle to try to get new IVs (and farm candy). So once you do it once one season, you have half the battle won for the next season. Still fucking insane. I am not doing that. Just pointing out why people have it. It is a "easy" farm ("easy" in the sense that it is easy to make a routine of once a day taking a picture of your insane-move set smeargle).

Hi Dan, I am currently Legend and have tanked down to 2500s in preparation for little catch cup. I have all rank 1s for the top 5 pokemon and will have fun winner with a timeout against trainers trying to climb :)
