I literally cried. So many people don't understand that he's probably one of the most interesting hero-characters ever... the character development he goes through is (in my opinion) almost unparalleled. He's so multi-dimensional and complex and absolutely perfect.

Hank Jayne After Loki, Tony Stark is probably the Marvel character that I identify with most. He never got to say goodbye to his father, I never got to say goodbye to my mother. He was born with immense talent and great privilege, and therefore has so very much to lose, and I'm right there with him on that score. He is haunted by the traumas he's endured and occasionally wakes up screaming, I do as well. The parallels start there and go on and on and on...

Tony stark is one of the most beloved characters in the MCU because he wants to do what is right. everyone who hates Tony says it's because he's cocky and a douchebag but i see so much more than that. Ever since his father was murdered emotionally he felt like he was on his own no matter the financial standards. He has to put on a strong and humorous front all the time to mask his real emotions, it breaks my heart when someone hates him because they can't see the depth within the character.
@DaddyLogan4208 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you, I relate to him so much, and I think this is the reason so many people are on Cap's side in Civil War. Steve Rogers is a plain out Boy Scout who wants to do the right thing, and while there's nothing wrong with that, many people just think of Tony as this selfish, narcissistic, douchebag, but deep down, we can see he is the only true "human" Avenger. I love the fact that he suffers from PTSD in IM3 because it shows that he truly is "just a man in a can". But throughout the death of his parents, a near death experience, the feeling that his father never truly loved him, ptsd triggering battles shown in A1 and 2, Tony Stark filters his emotions through his narcissistic, humorous facade and deep down is a caring person willing to sacrifice his life for others. "You need to look Strong."

+Atomic Power I was on Tony's side the whole time, his first scene on CW made me want to cry, I just really really love how complex he is, I can relate to his anxiety, his grief, and I honestly would've made all the same choices he made during the movie because I get it
@meggoweggo56778 жыл бұрын
Atomic Power exactly. I really gave props to Robert Downey jr. When she could just transition from the anxiety and the PTSD to complete humor. I love Captain America and I love Iron Man and I think that every single Marvel character has such complex characters and they're so flawed and that's why I love them. But when people say terrible things about Marvel characters about how they're not perfect or they act a certain way which can come off as douchey it really upsets me.

That's what makes his character arc so great. He goes from a man that is full of himself and wears armor to protect himself to a man that gave his life for the whole universe. I rewatched Iron Man and listened closely to the dialogue and he told Yinsen "thank you for saving me" and Yinsen told him "don't let your life go to waste". Then later in the film, he told Pepper that she was all he had (in terms of family) and that he shouldn't be alive but he feels like he should be alive for a reason. All along he cared about more than himself. He just never showed it because that makes him vulnerable to enemies. This man had no family in the beginning and once he had a family, he snapped his fingers. So if you ask me, he's the greatest hero.

I cried. Straight up sobbed. This was so accurate it made my heart melt, and to be honest, I think he's the most human, and the most heroic of all the super heroes. He doesn't have any superpowers, no extreme physical abilities, and yet he still does it. He chooses to put himself in danger to save people, and he was already doing it before the Avengers were assembled. I don't understand why so many people refuse to see the good in him.
@Ashfer28 жыл бұрын
+Backyard Tiger The problem is he is so good at acting like he doesn't care about anyone but himself, and loves himself the most of all. When deep down he really despises himself, but when you grow up in the public eye you can get good at acting and being everything everyone expects you to be and no one can tell the difference. Also you are expected to be just like your father, but at the same time that father never tells you he loves you or probably even hints that anything you do or build is good enough, especially when compared to the Great Captain America that Howard was always searching for while ignoring his son. Tony probably learned that it's easier to push people away by being overconfident and narcissistic rather than desperately try to gain their love or affection only to have it thrown in his face and break his heart even more when he allows them to get too close. I agree though a lot of people always say how much of a jerk he is etc. when they are just going by the way he acts which is obviously a front he's built up ever since he was a child.

Okay first I just want to say I love this video, one of the best character studies of Tony Stark, in my humble opinion. I never caught until just now, when Steve asks "if he ever lost a soldier" and he says "we're not soldiers...." that in the first Iron Man movie he did. But they were more than just soldiers to him. He throws up peace signs like the guy who wanted a picture with him, he shut down the weapons division in hopes to make up the fact that his weapon designs killed those around him.... So yea well pieced together, and just two thumbs way up from me!!!
@enjogior54898 жыл бұрын
Yes. I always feel like Steve misinterprets Tony and that's why I'm always a bit put off by Steve's character, he goes on and on to say how selfish Tony is when in the whole civil war plot he's willing to destroy everything to save Bucky. I do love Steve as a person but every time he makes a comment about Tony I want to kick him in the kneecap. Tony's been through so much more than Steve knows about. And people who dislike Tony can be compared to Steve just as much.
@jillianelise58 жыл бұрын
its honestly funny when i see what most people think of him (his team, most watchers of mcu). cocky, superficial, selfsish. they see all of the exterior of tony stark. they see the cars and the girls and the money that he flashes. but no one pays attention to the little things. the discrepancies. the scene in civil war where tony feels a pain in his chest. when asked if hes ok (clearly not ok), he turns around, puts on his happy go lucky face, and says "always". this is just one pattern of what he does. he feels things so strongly, that he puts up defenses, meaning he acts as if nothing touches him to hide the pain he feels. this character is finally showing what true mental struggles do to someone, how society can see right fucking past them. this character sheds light on anxiety, ptsd, depression, while showing just how strong people who struggle with this are, and how it does not define them. #tonystarkdefensesquad

While Tony has killed his captor in Afghanistan, you are completely right. I see people blame Tony for not realizing that the weapons were sold under the table, but find it somehow 'understandable' that SHIELD never noticed it was infiltrated by HYDRA (if anything it's way more the other way around; SHIELD is spies. Tony was alone and struggling). I actually somewhat respect the weapon making, and the reason he probably still focused on that, even though there was the arc reactor and other things he made (that he mentioned to Christine in the first movie) was because if HE didn't make them, then HAMMER would, and he doesn't trust Rhodey, his best friend, to be out there fighting without the best protection he can give.

This hurt to watch. I understand it. I think Tony Stark is so perfectly human. We all are, we all have our faults and we mess up and we hurt but we continue to try to get better. Iron man does the same thing. Tony stark inspires me. He is broken like all of us but he is still a hero. And his character development has not been surpassed. He keeps trying to get better all the while feeling that he has to appear perfect. That is why I love iron man/Tony stark he will always be my superhero. We should all try to strive to be a little like iron man even if it hurts to get up we still do to be there for the ones we love.

Lindsey Grainger It used to be that superhero movies were bludgeon-fests, pure chest-fist bashing events where people were flayed left and right with no significant reason why. I had a favorite superhero. I thought I understood what those kinds of movies were like. Then I watched the first Iron Man. And the second one. Honestly, Robert Downey Jr. plays Tony Stark like no other actor has ever played any other Marvel superhero. The ease with which he plays this role is, quite frankly, almost unparalleled. There is so much believability (and vulnerability) in this rendition of Tony Stark that the franchise has single-handedly redefined my respect and understanding of this character, and the people around him. Sheesh - Tony Stark's flat-out INSPIRING me now. A character this broken, this flawed, this human - and at the same time, this determined - is precisely something which shines in the Marvel universe. (Man - to have been with Stan Lee when he was watching this move take shape... I wonder what he must have been thinking.) It would genuinely be an amazing thing to bump into Tony Stark in real life. (Yes, I understand he's actually Robert Downey Jr., but go with me on this for a bit.) The questions I would ask him... the storied answers he'd give in response... this is the kind of guy who is somewhat dangerous to be around, but at the same time, that's one of the reasons why you'd want to hang out. You don't just spend time with this guy unless you're down to be in the world he's in - fighting for what's right, fighting to hold back desperately-unbalanced odds, innovating life in sometimes astounding ways... ...deeply questioning everything you're doing, through every second of it all.... It's because of just how human and imperfect he is that I appreciate Tony Stark. Just like you said, we should all strive to be a little like Iron Man. God bless you.
@lindsey16159 жыл бұрын
ryuhaneda I truly loved this comment. If I bumped into Tony Stark (or Robert Downey Jr) I would ask a ton of questions too. He'd have wisdom and experience, anyone who has risen out of so much pain would. They wouldn't be overly serious responses but you would still know he was sincere with his answers. I once read somewhere that Stan Lee said that Robert Downey Jr was born to play Tony Stark and that he loved it. I am eternally grateful and love that Stan Lee created such a character with substance that I can relate to on a personal, mental, emotional, and spiritual level, and that Robert Downey Jr brought him to life.

I feel like people don't like Tony because they can't see past any of his masks. He was forced to be unshakeable since he was child, growing up in front of the media. Any weakness he gave was exploited and held against him. His masks are a defense mechanism. The outside mask is sarcastic and narcissistic, dig deeper and you see the caring, self sacrificing, hero, and then finally you reach the guy who takes the blame for everything and hates himself. Tony Stark is probably the most in depth, real character in almost any movie I have ever seen. Anybody who doesn't see this refuses to look deeper. This is an amazing video, and I am totally not crying! Thank you for this.

I cried after I watched all the Iron Man and Avengers Movies in Order because this character does so much for the people around him and all he gets for it is ignorance. I mean: Tony Stark started as that guy who invented weapons, because he was like "This I can do best! That way I can change the world!" (This is my interpretation. He also made a ironic joke about the peace sign in the truck which became later his favourite hand sign as Iron Man, so idk) but then he saw the result of that in his captivity, built his suit(s) went to New York to save the world and came home with a crippling PTSD. And then that one kid said "You're a mechanic, right? So built something!" And so he built something in Age of Ultron. And while Vision turned out great, Ultron killed several people. Which begs the question what is he supposed to do in a time with aliens knocking on the front door, a goverment that is like "well blow em up with an atomic bomb" and between all that he stands: A human. A genuis human, still a human. And then Cap comes along and is like "We gonna do that together of course!" And the very next moment (Civil War) Together is not a thing anymore either! So yeah.. #TeamIronMan all the way! Oh and this video was great! (#sryforthewalloftext)

I liked Tony Stark because his character, his personality. He knows what he wants, he knows how to get it, he is very sassy, sarcastic, he is optimistic, he's the one you need even if you don't want to need him, he jokes about everything because he knows is better to do that than just stayed in your sad corner in your world but he's broken, he's dysfunctional and he is so guilt-ridden that it literally made him go insane. His dad 'hated' him and never told him he loved his son. And I *RELATE* to those traits too much that is scary, I relate to what he does and I know what is to have everything yet nothing. I know and I fell in love with him in the comics and what Mr. Robert Downey Jr. gave to the role made me throw my hat.

I dont think many people understand this, but Tony was a civilian. Thor was an ancient warrior who killed countless people in a culture where that is not just fine, but praised. Black Widow and Hawkeye are both trained assassins, and Captain America is a soldier. Even Bruce Banner can just blame everything on the Hulk. Tony? He never got that mindset of a soldier or assassin, nor can he blame anyone else. Everything he sees, he blames himself for. Every minor act of pain, and every great loss, he blames himself, because he has expectations for himself so high that he believes he should be able to solve all those problems. He saved his own life, why cant he save others?

I love the music in the background! I can never find good music for my videos, and music tracks can either make or break a film. This song was absolutely gorgeous and it fit perfectly! I also love the transitions and voice overs from one clip to another! Brilliant! It makes such a beautiful work of art! Well done! Tony Stark all the way to the universe and back :)

This is a master piece. I'm glad that people like you exist. Iron man is the greatest fictional character ever created. I thought I identified more with Bruce banner, but after watching this video and reading the words of it's Creator, I now know that I identify more with Tony stark. Thank you so much for this!

I feel like I've become Tony myself. Sometimes you really need to take the responsibility of your decisions, even if the results can go horribly wrong.

You made this in 2014 and I'm only seeing it in 2017 and I feel bad, but overall, this video is goddamn awesome, your editing skills are perfect and the way you explain who Tony Stark really is in full detail is amazing. I could watch this video a hundred times and still, I would cry. Thank you for making this video, I feel the need to share it so I just gotta do that.

So many people hate him because they can't see past his cockey and arrogant demenour... but this man is such an inspiration in the way he goes through so much, tried to appear like an asshole so his friends won't miss him when he dies, and suffers silently with PTSD and Anxiety, and always loses people, but he STILL manages to have small glimpses of happiness with people like Rhodey, Pepper, Happy and Peter Parker. He manages to hide it behind smiles and laughter and sarcasm, because he is a human being in a metal suit and unstable mind and he hurts each time he's hit or he loses someone, but he is strong enough to face his life with a smile. It's so beautiful, and it's such a shame others can't see it.

All of the Avengers/Marvel characters have all been through so much pain and sadness, Tony included. None of them are perfect, but they're trying their best to save others from pain and sadness. Tony is such a beautiful and complex character and some people need to see his side of the story, as to why he drink and puts up that wall filled with charisma and humour
