Phil and Jess, Great job! Thanks for wearing gloves Phil! A few things to answer some of questions raised in the video. While the odour may be “strong” it’s not necessarily dangerous. DIY Detail and C6 Ceramics coatings are designed for safety. The VOC’s are very low, and they are some of the only coatings that are not considered dangerous goods for air shipping. The other thing that added is you were actually putting it on too thick. As mentioned in the video you only need to get it on the surface, not flood the surface. After the initial 8-12 drops on the first panel, only 2-3 drops per panel is required. Also circular motions can make installation easier.

Great video as I like this 4 Runner. The DIY coatings are super easy to install and I am glad to see you wore gloves. How are your hands after using gloves? The coatings are potent smelling and I always keep my garage door up when coating. When I first used the red applicator pad I went back and used the microfiber pad the next time. Just yesterday I was thinking I need to order more of the red applicator pads as they do grow on you. You guys always got great durability with the NSP polishes and Crystal Serum Light. I put on DIY Detail "The Stack (8yr+3yr)", great experience for my first coating on my MDX! I love the red DIY applicators. Not a fan of the noise it makes at first, but love the strap, it's reversible too and the squeeze factor is a plus. Question about a topper for it. I put The Stack on the car about a month ago, should I put a topper on it like DIY Ceramic Gloss for the heck of it or should I wait until it is showing signs of degrading first? If so, should I use it as a drying aid each time I wash the car? I do enjoy using the leaf blower with the coating for drying! Thanks!

I used the diy 3 year grapheme coating, it worked well, saw the customer after 3 months, washed it and deconed it then boosted it with grapheme detail spray, it had some degradation of water beading on the lower parts of the doors. No coating lasts even 3 years, but with maintained , it will make it last longer. It is a good coating but in my personal experience years should not be put on coating, but possibly, a gloss or water-beading level. Their are so many variables,weather, how was it washed , was in taken threw a car wash once a week? That’s why their is no guarantee ,it makes maintenance easier for sure. Have you guys used any good polymer waxes? If so which ones? Love your videos, it’s funny I do a lot of the same procedures you do in your detailing routine, great job!

It's claims like 8 years and statements from Yvan I've seen on other channels where his opinion seems to be that we've all been detailing incorrectly that have left me avoiding this brand.
Hi. They are just trying to help new Detailers avoid a lot hype and silly mistakes. I don’t agree with everything they say, because my experience has shown otherwise. But then again many Detailers have their processes and methods that they swear by and teach others also, sometimes it’s just personal opinion or choice and other times it’s based on reality and facts. Do you think a ceramic coating is worth it for someone that washes his car on a weekly basis? The more I learned about ceramic coatings over the years, the more disappointed I got. All those old claims about resistance against light scratches and stone chips were debunked. Also saw some videos with one of those paint thickness gauge demonstrating that ceramic coatings don’t add even one micron to the paint’s thickness (they used gyeon pure in the demonstration), so the claim of a “sacrificial layer” when polishing the car seems false as well. So, honestly, I just can’t see the real difference from a “top mega pro max” ceramic coating and a ceramic spray sealant used on a regular basis, hence my question in the beginning. Keep up the good work, love your videos!
@Murph975 ай бұрын
@fredrbcc I still think coatings are worth it. I'm also a weekly washer and my coating is amazing. It makes maintenance so much easier not mention the prep and application were very fun. Some newer companies advertise high thickness like Armour Detail Supply says their quartz coating is 2-3 microns and I believe especially if you layer it. You're also getting more hardness from a coating but of course they can't protect against rock chips. The sacrificial layer just means that it will protect your paint from scratches so when your coating does get a light scratch that can be buffed off and you don't have to cut into your clear coat. I've got coatings going strong after years and I don't have to reapply sprays or toppers I just keep it clean and decon every once in a while. Paying a pro thousands to do it when you can do it yourself that's up to you. A lot of user friendly coatings on the market these days.
@MirandaDetailing5 ай бұрын
Hi. Unfortunately, marketing for coatings has really messed up peoples understanding of what the benefits are.Its not about scratch or swirl resistance, or thickness. The main benefit of a coating is the ease of maintenance. I have been maintaining vehicles with coatings and they are extremely easy to wash and keep clean longer. But if you are really keeping up on washing and sealing your vehicle regularly than you may not want a coating. But Coatings definitely are amazing for those who want intense beading and easy washing for years to come.
@diydetailofficial5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately unscrupulous companies have claimed all sorts of things about coatings, and detailers have simply repeated what they were told. Coatings do not prevent scratches, stone chips, marring , or lack of maintenance. Coatings do make the vehicle much easier to clean, are very chemically resistant, and of course look better. @@MirandaDetailing ok more interesting? Then why?

@@Jaysmobiledetailn probably because I’ve been telling him just how dangerous coatings are for him, and I’m sure I’m not alone.

How do they know it’s 8 years? Have they tested it with a Time Machine? Lol love their DIY content, but they are marketing geniuses. I won’t fall for it. But good luck to the viewers and their company. ☝️

Well Yvan has been in the detailing industry for over 40 years, he has helped develop tons of tools, products, and methods over the those years. He knows what formulas work, how they work, why they work, etc. Pretty awesome!

I’m waiting to see how the testing is done for their C6 ‘lifetime’ coating. 🤔

I'm sure Yvan will chime in about that. its not always about testing, its about chemical formulation knowledge and application. It's mostly math and chemistry. but I'm sure their is much more that goes into it. Honestly it doesn't make a difference to me, I trust the people who have been educating the detailing industry for decades.

I think they have a video on their KZbin page and they tested this ceramic in a tunel wash,which is the worst for a coating, and after 100 washes still it was there. And is not that expensive and it’s easy to apply. I bought the 5 years one because I didn’t find this on stock. Time will tell us👍

I share your thoughts on life of a coating, but did have a chance to talk to a someone that does work for a testing company. The can create samples that they run a series of tests to mimic conditions that it will endure. From these tests they project possible life assuming those tests. Pure science but again your mileage will vary.
