I’am 72 and lived the life your describing for the last 30 years or so. Been to over 50 countries, seen and experienced probably enough that I am happy and content with. Been living in Thailand for 5 years and living the life that is still fulfilling for me. I have a loving Thai relationship for 5 years too. I keep in contact with my grown up kids, which is very important as I have 4 grandchildren now. I travel with them also, plus they visit Thailand too. I live in the Pattaya area and have a good social life. Love playing Pickleball, Badminton etc. Keeping active everyday with sports and exercising is vital as we get older. I know a few guys in their 80’s still able to do 5K runs etc. As long as we have our health, enjoy everyday 😊. Good luck with your stay on Samar Island, I met many girls from Samar in my time in the Philippines. It’s definitely a beautiful island that hasn’t been overexposed as other places!

Word of advice. Be patience. Take your time. I know you're anxious and that time is against you. But that said I would be very wary if girls from the Philippines. I travelled the world each year taking at least three holidays each year including two world cruises as well as three visits to China! What a life! The best time to visit Philippines culture is December Christmas Eve and New year's Eve where many foreigners, traveler's, tourist,ofw, expats to come back home and do more vacations and relaxation it's called Palihi culture in Philippines the Christmas Eve and New year's Eve it's really different Christmas experience compare to China where people are eating, drinking all night till mornings or sharing more food. You live in China in 21 years or more that you forgot how beautiful other city is like Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, other city. To explore Philippines you need bike, folding bike, scooter, motorcycle it's more cheaper transport and can explore easily

Well, not everyone can afford to retire at 53. And not everyone who can afford that is interested in doing it. 'You only live once' is a line used mostly by people who either had a hard job, or are who are lazy bums. We don't know if we live ONLY once. And we don't know if we die 'young' or get to very old age, so we can't plan anything. And if we die before collecting pension, what? Do you think that as a spirit we regret that choice? Philippines? Great place to be on a short vacation (2-3 weeks) but nothing more. And if I fall in love with a Pinay I will bring her to Canada because this is where I feel good. And she will be grateful to me for the rest of her life. Will she leave me for a younger, richer man? Very probable, but I can prepare myself for that, and move to the next one if that will happen. But to each its own.

@@henrydoone7554 I'm 51, there's no way I'm in a position to retire, but I did lose a wife that I dedicated 20 years full time care to until she passed in 2017, after of course the grief and the realisation that I'm not going to be on this earth forever I decided to pick myself up, dust myself off, I owe nothing to anybody and went out and met my now fiancé. @Gweilo60 owes nothing to anybody. If that's what he wants to do well so be it. I'll enjoy coming along for the ride and checking in on how he's doing in Calbayog (it's where my girlfriend is from too). As I said it'll be a while before I can retire I've still kids to rear at home, but it doesn't mean that foundations for our future together can't be laid ie. She's coming over for a couple of months to Ireland and I go for a month or so to the Philippines. I just think of it as me being an offshore worker, never more than a year apart from each other. You do only live once, because if there's a god why would it put us through hell twice?
